FantasyPros
The nice thing about Henry playing in the playoffs is that we know he is healthy and he will be available for all OTA activities. Henry should bounce back as a TE1 coming off the ACL injury in May last year.Ekeler had RB3 value last year playing behind RB Melvin Gordon, he is going to have a ton of upside if RB Melvin Gordon can find a trading partner.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Prior to tearing his ACL, Henry's career arc was moving in the right direction. His per-target production is through the roof as he's seen 115 targets in his career that have amounted to 81 receptions for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns. By comparison, Zach Ertz saw 156 targets in 2018 and finished with 1,163 yards and 8 touchdownsHe's never going to win you a fantasy league, but Ekeler can play a role if you're in a league with a lot of starters. Even with Melvin Gordon healthy, Ekeler touched the ball between 7-14 times from Week 1 to Week 7. It seemed as if the Chargers were okay with Justin Jackson as the primary workhorse if Gordon went down, but knowing Ekeler should total anywhere between 120-200 touches in the Chargers offense carries value
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Philip Rivers knows how to utilize tight ends and Henry will be making up for lost time. He's a top-5 threat.I don't know if any Chargers back is a stud if Gordon sits, but Ekeler is easily the one to own.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Henry was a popular breakout candidate last year until he tore his ACL and missed the entire regular season. He's been an excellent fantasy option throughout his career, and that's been almost entirely with Antonio Gates on the field. With Gates now out of the way, Henry should see a bevy of targets from Philip Rivers, who has targeted his tight ends early and often. That immediately vaults him into the top 10 of tight ends, and you shouldn't hesitate to take him in the top five if necessary.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Really liked Hunter Henry at his ADP last season, but then he missed the entire season with a torn ACL and now he is being drafted at the same spot. It does scare me a bit. He was really coming into his own at the end of 2017 with over 50 receiving yards in 3 of his final 4 games and 2 TDs in that span with 16 receptions in those games. There are a lot of mouths to feed in San Diego though and the running backs basically combined to be a WR1 receiving last season.Only running back with 5 ypc and 10 ypr over the last two seasons. Yes, he struggled a bit when it was his backfield last season, but it was a small sample. I expect him to be the lead back in Gordon's absence while also operating as the receiving back. He is quite a steal in drafts right now.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Chargers RBs last season combined for a line of - 138 targets, 104 receptions, 1,029 yards, 7 TDs. With MelGo or not, Ekeler is going to have standalone value as a flex with upside as a receiving threat in that backfield. If MelGo holds out, I'd prefer Ekeler to Jackson, as he provides a safer floor and higher upside.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
It is tough to know just how strong Henry will be in his return from the injury but seeing that he was prepared to play in the playoffs, it seems likely that he will be nearly back to 100%. Prior to his injury, Henry was every bit as efficient as Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce at the top of the league. Now that he is actually the starter and should see a major bump in targets, he may just leap into that top tight end tier. We've essentially got two different fantasy assets here as Ekeler's relevance will depend entirely on the Melvin Gordon holdout. If Gordon plays, Ekeler is an RB4 depth piece to fill in during bye weeks and in case of injuries. If Gordon sits, Ekeler jumps clean into the top 25 fantasy RBs immediately.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Hunter Henry will return from a torn ACL he suffered last summer. Unlike players who suffered that injury during the season, Henry will be 100% to start the year. Henry put together two decent seasons before the injury, serving as both a receiving option and a red zone threat, even while Gates was still with the team. With Gates now long gone, Henry should be the teams top red zone option. This is also an offense that loves to throw the football. In 2017 they ranked 6th and 3rd in passing TD's and yards respectively. Last season those numbers were 8th and 11th. The Chargers have seemingly drawn the short straw on injuries in each of the past three seasons. In 2016 Keenan Allen tore his ACL, in 2017 Mike Williams injured his back and was limited to just one start, then Henry tore his ACL last season. At least for now, The Chargers offense is fully healthy. The core of Gordon/Allen/Henry/Williams is one of the best in the league, so they should be amongst the league leaders in TD's scored. While that's a positive for Henry (top red zone option on a top scoring offense), the plethora of options does mean that there will be some down weeks for all of these players. There are so many mouths to feed that sometimes they are going to under perform. At the end of the day, Henry is a top TE option, and someone I'd target in the middle rounds. The Melvin Gordon news has upped the value of Austin Ekeler. It doesn't seem like the two parties are close to a deal, so Ekeler has a very real chance to open the season as the starter. The most likely scenario (although we're all really just guessing) is that Gordon holds out until mid season, plays out the rest of the year, then enters FA. Under that scenario Ekeler needs to be drafted in the middle rounds. He holds value even when Gordon returns, and he'll be extremely valuable while he's away. There's also a chance the team trades him, which would also make him a value. If you're drafting, and Gordon is still holding out, then you should be targeting both Ekeler and Jackson.
