Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | How good is Josh Allen? He wasn't even 100% last year and he still finished as a top 2 QB. And that was with one of his top WRs, Gabriel Davis, fighting an ankle injury for much of the season. Because of his aggressive style, Allen subjects himself to more punishment than other QBs. The Bills reportedly would like him to play more cautiously. We'll see. Allen's physical nature and will to win no matter the cost are a few of the things that make him great. If he changes his style too much it would not bode well for his stats. His rushing ability and threat to run in the red zone help distinguish him from other elite QBs. The signing of free agent Damien Harris could be problematic if the Bills wish to give him the ball over Allen in the red zone. Despite those concerns, Allen is elite. He's a big part of why Buffalo has one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. Adding rookie TE Dalton Kincaid will only make the Bills' offense more potent. Allen's current ADP of QB 2 is well justified. Of course, if I didn't rank him high The Bills Mafia would have me whacked. Then, afterward, they'd send a fish to my family. It's a Sicilian message. Mark Ringo sleeps with the fishes haha! | In a prove it a year, Jalen Hurts came up big time. Not just for fantasy owners, but for the Eagle Nation. He did everything possible to win them a title, falling just short in a gut-wrenching loss to Kansas City and former Philadelphia head coach, Andy Reid. He's still got a solid o-line and some great WRs in A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. The concerns are the loss of offensive coordinator Shane Steichen who left to become the head coach of Indianapolis and the schedule. Last year the Eagles benefitted by playing some less-than-formidable defenses in Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota, Arizona, Houston etc. This year won't be as easy with San Francisco, N.Y. Jets, Miami, Buffalo, etc. along with their usual NFC East foes on the docket. Dallas added DT Mazi Smith a run-stuffing specialist out of Michigan while sack monster Chase Young should be fully healthy for the Commanders. With a current ADP of QB 3 there's very little margin for error for Hurts. In addition, it would not surprise me to see other talented QBs (for ex. Lamar Jackson, Burrow, Herbert, DeShaun Watson, & possibly Anthony Richardson) have a good year and leapfrog Hurts in the 2023 fantasy results. For those reasons, I'm sliding Hurts down my rankings a bit compared to his ADP, although he's talented enough to make me look even more foolish than usual. My readers are like how is that even possible? Trust me, it's possible. Haha! |
Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Arguably the most consistent QB for fantasy, Allen is my QB two for 2023. His rushing upside paired with his cannon of an arm, gives him a rock-solid floor and a limitless ceiling. Now with the addition of Dalton Kincaid, he has another weapon to help maintain his top-tier fantasy finishes. | Jalen Hurts is basically Josh Allen Lite. You can argue he is the more dynamic runner, but lacks the arm talent of Allen. Having said that, he is a prolific passer and has a plethora of weapons. The only reason I have him down at five, is I expect his 13 rushing touchdowns will not repeat, meaning he'll have to pass for more than last year's 22 touchdowns to crack the top three again. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | He's finished Top 2 at QB for 3 straight seasons, and his rushing attempts keep climbing | Passing game improvement, along with elite QB rush numbers (including unstoppable goal line keepers), vaulted him into QB Top 3 in 2022 |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | Josh Allen finished QB2 in fantasy scoring behind Patrick Mahomes last season after finishing QB1 in 2020 and 2021. Allen remains capable of putting fantasy teams on his shoulders in any given week with multi-TD spike games. He's thrown for more than 4,000 yards in three straight seasons and has finished with 35 to 37 TD passes every year during that span. Allen adds immense value with his legs. He's run for 700+ yards in each of the last two years and has had at least six TD runs in each of his five NFL seasons. Allen is likely to be the first QB off the board in most 2023 fantasy drafts. | Hurts gave us a taste of his fantasy potential in 2021 and then cooked a seven-course meal in 2022, improving his passing numbers across the board, providing enormous rushing value and leading all quarterbacks with 25.6 fantasy points per game. Hurts was a highly efficient passer in his second full season as a starter, completing 66.5% of his throws at 8.0 yards per attempt, with a miniscule 1.3% INT rate. But it's the running game where Hurts really makes his bones. He ran for 13 touchdowns last year and has 23 TD runs over the last two seasons. Hurts has topped 750 rushing yards in each of the last two seasons, averaging 51.5 rushing yards per game over that span. He plays behind one of the best offensive lines in football and can throw to three terrific targets: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. Hurts belongs on the top QB tier along with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. |
Tera Roberts Dynasty Vipers | Allen hurt his elbow in Week 9 vs the Jets. Weeks 1-8 he averaged 28.1 PPG; Hurts averaged 25.2 over that time period and Mahomes averaged 25. Hurts averaged 26.8 on the season and Mahomes 25.9. At this best, Allen is the highest scorer between the three. I prefer Mahomes in Dynasty but in Redraft, Allen is this number one. | Averaged 26.8 PPG on the season and there will be no change in his situation other than at running back. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Josh Allen had 4,283 yards passing, 35 passing TDs, 762 rushing yards, and 7 rushing TDs. He is an elite QB1 that is as consistent as any fantasy option in the NFL. | Hurts had solid passing numbers with 3,701 yards passing and 22 passing TDs, but his 760 yards rushing and 13 rushing TDs added to those passing numbers make him an elite QB1. |
