Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Mahomes II is really good. I would draft him. How's that for fantasy analysis? Haha! Okay, here's a little more to chew on. He has a pretty good crew around him. Kadarius Toney should have a much bigger role on offense in 2023. He's had all offseason to get familiar with the playbook. Note- Andy Reid is known for having one of the most complex offenses in the league. Toney just needs to stay healthy. Skyy Moore should also play a bigger role for the same reason regarding the playbook. And if free agent DeAndre Hopkins signs in Kansas City- lookout! They might break the scoreboard. The concerns I have: Will the loss of LT Orlando Brown be problematic for Mahomes II? The Chiefs signed veteran Donovan Smith to replace Brown. However, Smith struggled last year in Tampa Bay. Injuries factored into his poor performance. Second, Patrick's brother is in some legal trouble. Will the stress from that situation affect his play? Athletes are people too folks. That said, Mahomes II is really good. I'd still draft him haha! Hey, where else are you going to get that kind of fantasy insight except from Mark Ringo? I mean, they should build statues of me and pay homage to my fantasy greatness haha! | In a prove it a year, Jalen Hurts came up big time. Not just for fantasy owners, but for the Eagle Nation. He did everything possible to win them a title, falling just short in a gut-wrenching loss to Kansas City and former Philadelphia head coach, Andy Reid. The good news is most of the same crew returns. Philly has a solid o-line and along with some great WRs in A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith. The concerns are the loss of offensive coordinator Shane Steichen who left to become the head coach of Indianapolis and the schedule. Last year the Eagles benefitted by playing some less-than-formidable defenses in Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota, Arizona, Houston etc. This year won't be as easy with San Francisco, N.Y. Jets, Miami, Buffalo, etc. along with their usual NFC East foes on the docket. Dallas added DT Mazi Smith a run-stuffing specialist out of Michigan while sack monster Chase Young should be fully healthy for the Commanders. With a current ADP of QB 3 there's very little margin for error for Hurts. In addition, it would not surprise me to see other talented QBs (for ex. Lamar Jackson, Burrow, Herbert, DeShaun Watson, & possibly Anthony Richardson) have good years and leapfrog Hurts in the 2023 fantasy results. For those reasons, I'm sliding Hurts down my rankings a bit compared to his ADP, although he's talented enough to make me look even more foolish than usual. My readers are like how is that even possible? Trust me, it's possible. Haha! |
Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | He's magic. I don't think there is another word to describe how electric Mahomes is. Lock him in for 5000 yards and 35 touchdowns, and he comes in as my QB3 for this season. | Jalen Hurts is basically Josh Allen Lite. You can argue he is the more dynamic runner, but lacks the arm talent of Allen. Having said that, he is a prolific passer and has a plethora of weapons. The only reason I have him down at five, is I expect his 13 rushing touchdowns will not repeat, meaning he'll have to pass for more than last year's 22 touchdowns to crack the top three again. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Averaged 4791 passYds, 38 passTD, 300+ rushYds past 5 seasons - J. Herbert only other QB in NFL history to reach all those marks in same season | Passing game improvement, along with elite QB rush numbers (including unstoppable goal line keepers), vaulted him into QB Top 3 in 2022 |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | Arguably the best pure passer to ever play in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes enters his age-28 season at the height of his powers. Mahomes led all players in fantasy scoring last season with 428.4 points, giving him his second QB1 finish. In his five full seasons as a starter, Mahomes has averaged 303 passing yards and 23.95 fantasy points per game. Playing his first season without WR Tyreek Hill, who left for Miami, Mahomes finished the 2022 season with a career-high 5,250 passing yards and a league-high 41 TD passes. Mahomes is the safest bet you can make at quarterback. | Hurts gave us a taste of his fantasy potential in 2021 and then cooked a seven-course meal in 2022, improving his passing numbers across the board, providing enormous rushing value and leading all quarterbacks with 25.6 fantasy points per game. Hurts was a highly efficient passer in his second full season as a starter, completing 66.5% of his throws at 8.0 yards per attempt, with a miniscule 1.3% INT rate. But it's the running game where Hurts really makes his bones. He ran for 13 touchdowns last year and has 23 TD runs over the last two seasons. Hurts has topped 750 rushing yards in each of the last two seasons, averaging 51.5 rushing yards per game over that span. He plays behind one of the best offensive lines in football and can throw to three terrific targets: A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert. Hurts belongs on the top QB tier along with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. |
Tera Roberts Dynasty Vipers | Averaged 25.9 PPG on the season. The Chiefs would have to draft or trade for a big name receiver for me to push him above Hurts. | Averaged 26.8 PPG on the season and there will be no change in his situation other than at running back. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Patrick Mahomes led the league with 5,250 yards passing and 41 passing TDs. He also had 35 yards rushing and 4 rushing TDs. Mahomes is among the most consistent fantasy performers in the NFL and an elite QB1. | Hurts had solid passing numbers with 3,701 yards passing and 22 passing TDs, but his 760 yards rushing and 13 rushing TDs added to those passing numbers make him an elite QB1. |
