Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Considering everyone believes Chase and Jefferson are a tier of their own, I am surprised how few people have Chase at one. Due to his injury last season, it is often overlooked that he averaged more targets and touchdowns per game and 0.2 fewer receptions per game than Jefferson. If one of these two is going to score 12+ touchdowns, I'm betting it's Chase, making him my WR-one this season. | Give me a second to wipe the egg from my face. Kupp is outstanding, I'll admit I thought there was no way he could repeat his production from 2021, and he did just that before getting injured. With Matthew Stafford coming back and the team floundering to find other offensive weapons, Kupp is as locked and loaded as ever. Although he is my third WR, he deserves to be in the same conversation as the big two. |
Justin Herrera TSS Fantasy | Chase's ADOT dropped by almost three yards from his freshman to sophomore years in the NFL. I wonder if this will continue to be the case in 2023. Chase is a dominant force downfield but a lot like Tyreek Hill his offense might need him to use his speed while running shorter routes. Leading to more catches and added PPR value.
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | I fully expect Justin Jefferson to be the consensus No. 1 wide receiver, but Ja'Marr Chase will be right on his heels as the No. 2. Chase led all WRs in red-zone targets per game (28 in 14 games played) and expected fantasy half-PPR points per game (16.4). Therefore, he's an extremely strong bet to finish No. 1 in red-zone targets and receiving touchdowns in 2023. His 22 receiving touchdowns through his first two seasons are the most by any WR since Odell Beckham Jr. In the games that Chase was healthy this year, he also posted a superior target share (30% vs. 28%) and identical air yards share (39%) to Jefferson. All things being considered, Chase also has a quarterback that could easily throw for 50 TDs. Kirk Cousins won't toss 40-plus touchdowns in this lifetime. | Cooper Kupp was originally in the S Tier of my 2023 WR rankings, but I moved him down in regard to concerns about Matthew Stafford's health. However, I still think Kupp will produce at an extremely high level if he and Stafford are healthy. Last year he led all WRs in points per game (18.4) while commanding the league's second-highest target share (31.3%) before his injury. |
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Last December here's what Michael Lombardi, former NFL executive said about Matthew Stafford's health on his podcast, "The GM Shuffle". "There's a good chance, I would say better than 70% that Matthew Stafford doesn't play next year. I have a sense that...it's more than a hunch, it's talking to people in the league that maybe Stafford's body is breaking down." After seeing that statement from Michael Lombardi, unless those opinions have changed, the thought of drafting or ranking ANY Rams offensive player high scares the living hell out of me. Lombardi is pretty dialed in when it comes to news in the league. I said it last year because I was concerned about his elbow and I'll say it again in 2023, if Stafford breaks down, the Rams' offense falls off a cliff. And last time I checked, Cooper Kupp is a big part of the Rams' offense. Bust
Derek Brown FantasyPros | Chase followed up a stellar rookie campaign with a banner sophomore season. He was sixth in target share (29.3%), ninth in air yard share (36.6%), and the WR4 in fantasy points per game. Despite only playing 12 regular season games, he finished third in red zone targets and fourth in total touchdowns. Chase is a top-three fantasy receiver in 2023 and a locked-in top-five pick. | Despite the entire Rams' offense cratering around him last season, Cooper Kupp was on his way to another fantastic season before being shut down with a high ankle sprain. With the Rams out of the playoff picture and the team in shambles, Los Angeles put Kupp on the shelf. Kupp ranked third in target share (31.0%), fourth in target per route run rate (31.5%), and 12th in air yard share (34.5%). All of this culminated in another WR1 finish in fantasy points per game. With Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford returning for 2023, Kupp should be a top-three fantasy wideout again. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | In PPR scoring, only OBJ had more fantasy points at WR than Chase through the first 29 games of an NFL career | Returns from injury to pick where up he's left off in his past 26 games (220 catches, 2759 recYds, 23 TDs) |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Chase had 79 receptions for 960 yards and 8 TDs in the 2022 fantasy season, despite missing 4 fantasy games. He is still a young player that should stay health in 2023. If he plays 16 fantasy games, he should be an elite fantasy option. | How many fantasy players could finish 21st among fantasy wide receivers, despite missing 7 games? That is what Kupp did in 2022, finishing with 75 receptions for 812 yards and 6 TDs in 9 fantasy games. Kupp had an ankle injury and was shutdown with the Rams out of contention. He should be ready to roll as an elite WR1 in 2023. |
