FantasyPros
The Jaguars spent most of the offseason trying to get away from Fournette and the result was that . . . they added Chris Thompson. Yes, that's going to mean a decline from the 76 receptions Fournette had last year, but normal regression would have led to a significant decrease in his target volume anyway. But Fournette also had the eighth-most rushing attempts inside the red zone last year and yet somehow scored only three touchdowns. His likely increase in finding the end zone should offset much of his loss of volume in the passing game, and combined should be enough to keep him as a fairly decent RB2 in fantasy leagues. If Conner stays healthy this year, he's almost certainly going to be a draft-day bargain. Through Week 7, before his season was derailed by injury, he was on pace for more than 1400 total yards and 14 touchdowns. Mike Tomlin has come out and essentially stated that Conner is going to be a workhorse back, and he may get even more work in the receiving game if Ben Roethlisberger doesn't push it downfield as much as he used to after elbow surgery. In other words, it's just health with Conner. If he has it, he should be no worse than an extremely strong RB2 in half- or full-PPR leagues.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Biggest concern is not whether he'll see positive TD regression or take a major receptions hit with C. Thompson around, it's if JAX remains committed to him if/when losses pile up7th among RBs in FAN PPG over past 2 seasons (better than Cook, Henry, Mixon, to name a few), but in a prove-it season health wise - figure he's playing for his future in PIT
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
You can say what you want about Leonard Fournette's ability and the Jags' offense but what matters most in fantasy football is volume and you can be sure Fournette will have it. He rushed the ball 265 times last season to go with 100 targets. Plus he is due for positive touchdown regresssion so he seems likely to blow past his ADP in terms of value.Conner was tremendous in 2018 but had an injury-riddled 2019 season and the entire offense was sluggish with Big Ben hurt. Now that both are back, Conner possesses RB1 upside but there is also risk of him not playing due to underlying health conditions.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
After trying to trade him prior to the NFL Draft, Fournette appears destined to play for the Jaguars once again in 2020. With Jay Gruden calling the offense, they should be much more efficient this year, though Fournette's volume made him a great play throughout 2019. The only running backs who offered RB2 or better numbers more often than Fournette in 2019 were Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott, Dalvin Cook, and Austin Ekeler. Do they go with more of a timeshare under Gruden? it's possible, but he should still offer low-end RB1 value. If Conner were able to stay on the field, he'd be considered as a top-10 running back in fantasy. Unfortunately, he hasn't done that, and it's led them to draft Jaylen Samuels, Benny Snell, and now Anthony McFarland. While none of them are better than Conner, it's likely we see them take some of the workload away from him in 2020.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
365 touches last season and only 57 evaded tackles. 90th in fantasy points per opportunity. Jay Gruden brought in his guy Chris Thompson to catch passes out of the backfield.People are quick to write Conner off, but injuries are the only difference from this season to last where he was being drafted as a first-round pick. In fact, Big-Ben is back, so Conner should have more running lanes than he did last season when he excelled. From weeks 1-8 last season, Conner saw almost 18 touches per game, was sixth among RBs in fantasy points per snap, and forced the second-most missed tackles on receptions. He's also played at least 10 games every year of his career and is an RB1 whenever he's on the field. He's easily worth the third round pick.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Fournette is the unquestioned lead back for a NFL team, which is always going to equate to fantasy impact. With that being said, he has a limited ceiling and it's hard to see a path where Fournette finishes as a top-15 RB this season.Conner's a dicey pick, but that seems to be built into his ADP right now. If everything goes his way this season, Conner will drastically outperform where he's being drafted right now. However, we just simply don't know at this point whether or not he's going to remain healthy for all 16 games. In fact, I might bet against that happening.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Leonard Fournette only scored three rushing touchdowns in 2019, but they accounted for every rushing score for the Jaguars. Those three rushing touchdowns were the lowest from a team since the 2005 Cardinals. Only 13 other teams in NFL history finished with that low of a total. (@LateRoundQB) I don't completely expect Fournette to stay as healthy as he did last year, but we should see some TD regression in 2020. In 2019 he set career highs in: games played: 15, rush yards: 1152, rushing 1st downs: 52, yards per att: 4.3, targets: 100, receptions: 76, receiving yards: 522, total touches: 341, total yards: 1674... for 6-10 team (@DFFMemphis)
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
If Leonard Fournette remains the Jags workhorse RB he could be one of the bargains of the season. Often available in the third round, he offers league-winning upside in an attack with plenty of points in it. The risk is clearly high with the possibility the Jags go full rebuild and give Ryquell Armstead a proper crack or get forced to chase games. The upside is massive too though. Fournette finish RB9 with 1600+ yards but only 3 TDs in 2019. That's stupidly low and makes no sense given he had 57 red zone touches which is very high. Somehow, he only converted 5% of those looks, well down on his previous efforts of 25%. Regression to his TD average and a repeat of last season's yardage would mean 290 points and a top 5 finish. Take the gamble! What an awful season 2019 proved to be for those who draft James Conner in the first round of drafts. Big Ben was injured, the offence fell apart, Conner's body fell apart and other backs like Benny Snell, Jaylen Samuels and even Kerrith Whyte (who oddly didn't look too bad) swarmed in. With Ben back, Conner ripped like a flying squirrel and another RB in 4th rounder Anthony McFarland in the mix, 2020 has turned into a real crap shoot. With a 4th round price tag though, Conner might just be worth the risk as an upside gamble returning to a good offence where he should be the lead back.
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
As long as he's healthy, he has RB1 potential. Up.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
No matter what you think of Fournette, touching the ball 341 times, and only getting 3TDs is not sustainable, in a good way. I don't have a problem thinking Chris Thompson or Laviska take away a significant amount of targets, I just need the TDs to normalize to get ROI.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Fournette was strong when it comes to yards from scrimmage (1,674), but he had only 3 touchdowns. Fournette was actively shopped during the NFL Draft. The Jaguars are not going to have much patience with him not performing well this year, which makes him a risky fantasy player.Conner went from 1,470 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in 2018 to 715 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns in 2019. The big issue for me is durability, Conner has RB1 talent, but missed 3 games in 2018 and 6 games last year. He has a lot of upside due to his ability, but a lot of downside due to his durability.
