It wouldn't shock me to see Watkins finish as the best Chiefs wide receiver, as I believe he's the most talented one. The issue is that he's learning his third offense in three years, which can cripple a wide receiver in year-one. Because of that, Tyreek Hill is the preferred option in 2018. Still, the Chiefs didn't pay Watkins $50 million to see 60-80 targets, so I'd expect him to be a WR3 more often than not. With Pat Mahomes under center and a bad defense, the recipe is there for increased pass attempts. Knowing each of their costs, Watkins is the better fantasy pick. After Washington traded for Alex Smith, I knew I'd be high on Crowder. My interest only grew fonder when they brought in Paul Richardson, who should help stretch the field and open things underneath for Crowder. Smith doesn't like throwing into tight windows, as evidenced by NFL's NextGenStats that show a league-low 12 percent of his throws went to a wide receiver with one or less yard of separation. While Richardson and Josh Doctson were mediocre at separating, Crowder averaged 3.2 yards of separation, which ranked eight among wide receivers in 2017. Reports out of camp are that the Smith/Crowder connection has been apparent in the red zone.

QB List
Another wonderfully redundant signing, Watkins enters a Chiefs offense flush with key contributors and a player who already has the downfield role locked up in Tyreek Hill. With this in mind I have to assume Watkins will be utilized similar to how he was used in Los Angeles: the sporadic deep route and as a physical force at the goal line. Even then, however, Watkins upside will be severely diminished, and that's without even taking into account the progression of young QB Patrick Mahomes. I'm inclined to stay away in favor of other Tier 5 options, but Watkins is still the #2 receiver in a gunslinging KC offense. The case for Crowder as a high upside play at #27 is an easy one: not only did the young receiver suffer from a slight case of stone hands last season, but he received his passes from a relatively inaccurate gunslinger in Kirk Cousins. Now nearly a year removed from the struggles of last season, Crowder enters 2018 as the primary slot receiver for a Redskins offense led now by conservative pitching machine Alex Smith. Aided by a jump in his QB's accuracy, an essential aspect of a successful slot game, and a defined role with the infusion of speedster Paul Richardson, Crowder looks poised to produce solid top 30 numbers over the course of a long season.

Watkins lands in Kansas City and will be a boom-or-bust fantasy prospect once again. I do like that he gets a strong-armed Patrick Mahomes throwing to him, as the deep ball is where he has done much of his damage in the NFL. I will likely draft Watkins this year for his upside but be prepared for another disappointment.Crowder was hyped pretty well last season and then crashed and burned early on, but he did improve after the halfway point. I still like his ability and am not sold on Josh Doctson just yet, while Paul Richardson should deep routes and give Crowder short and mid-range targets. As long as Jordan Reed continues his inability to stay on the field, Crowder will have a shot at a bounce-back season.

Mahomes to Watkins has a chance to be something specialSmith looks to love him some Crowder
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
How much longer will the fantasy community hold out hope on Watkins? One more year. He has caught 67 of 122 targets over the last two seasons combined and followed last year's only 100-yard showing by dispersing 28 yards through three contests. Yet six scores vaulted him to WR23 after a Week 8 bye, and Patrick Mahomes is a better partner for downfield damage than Jared Goff. He's an interesting high-upside gamble (especially in Best Ball drafts) near the seventh or eighth round. One of 2017's trendiest picks, Crowder looked like a colossal bust with 149 receiving yards and four fumbles through his first six games. (Condolences to anyone who stuck by his side long enough to endure Week 4's -7 yards and fumble.) He then flipped a switch, totaling 640 yards and 74 targets in nine redemptive outings. Depending on which version drafters trust, he's either a steal or reach at his WR38 ADP. He created 3.2 yards of average separation, and opportunities should remain bountiful as Alex Smith's top targets, so lean toward the former.

Who knows how Watkins will fit in a new system with basically a rookie QB playing but I have to trust the talent here
Kevin Wheeler

Coach Andy Reid said he's been moving Sammy Watkins "all over the place" on offense. "We were moving him everywhere," Reid said. "He hasn't had to do that in his career." In past stops with the Bills and Rams, Watkins has been a traditional X receiver on the back side of defenses, routinely facing the other team's best corner or seeing double coverage. Chiefs.com's B.J. Kissel writes the connection between Patrick Mahomes and Sammy Watkins is "real." Kissel writes Mahomes and Watkins have consistently been connecting throughout the offseason program, and fellow receiver Chris Conley said Watkins has picked up the offense "as fast as anyone I've seen." I generally stay away from this type of off season hype, but Sammy has been hindered by nagging injuries when in Buffalo and zero pre-season prep with his new QB in LA going into last year. Sammy has the athleticism and skill to be a WR1, I'm hoping he is fed the targets he will need to get there. After coming into the season with lingering injuries, Jamison Crowder was PPR WR13 over weeks 10-17 last season. I expect Crowder and new QB Alex Smith will be working hard to form a solid connection during camp.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Don't give up on Watkins, who was a trainwreck last season. He didn't know the playbook because of when he was traded and the Rams weren't creative with their use of him. Kansas City has big plans for Sammy apparently, and if he can stay healthy, he's got all the talent in the world for a huge breakout.Crowder has continued to have doubters but keeps getting better each and every year. This season, he fits perfectly with his new quarterback, Alex Smith, who only throws to receivers when they have separation, which is Crowder's specialty. He could have a huge breakout campaign as a result.
Derek Lofland
Fantasy Football Maniax
Watkins has never lived up to his high first round pick billing, but he has a chance to be a WR3 in a revamped KC offense.
