Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | DeAndre Hopkins is being suspended six games for violating the NFL's Performance Enhancing Drug policy. This penalty has massive fantasy football repercussions for the Arizona Cardinals offense starting with quarterback Kyler Murray. Murray's production dipped last season without Hopkins in the lineup over the final four weeks of the season. He averaged 18.8 fantasy points per game and 6.3 yards per pass attempt. Murray averaged 24.9 fantasy points per game and 8.7 yards per attempt in the nine games with Hopkins fully healthy. He also posted the No. 1-ranked PFF passing grade (90.5). Losing Hopkins for six games cannot be ignored, but the addition of Marquise Brown figures to make up for some of the lost production. | Joe Burrow finished the regular season as PFF's highest-graded passer (91.2) while also ranking first in super sticky stats like passing grade from a clean pocket (94.6) and passing grade throwing at the intermediate level (95.6). He finished the season as the QB8 averaging just north of 20.5 fantasy points per game. The Bengals quarterback has undoubtedly entered the conversation as one of the league's best real-life NFL passers, but might be slightly overvalued based on early best ball ADP with impending regression. He's the QB6 despite finishing as a top-6 fantasy quarterback just thrice in 2021. No quarterback scored more fantasy points over expectation, which hints that regression will hit Burrow in 2022. The LSU product also rushed for just 118 yards and two TDs. He rushed for fewer yards than Mac Jones, who is notorious for being ranked low across consensus due to his lack of upside as a rusher. However, there is a legitimate path for Burrow's upside to be further unlocked if the Bengals increase their pass rate as they did during his rookie season and down the playoff stretch. Burrow led the NFL in passing attempts per game (40.4) during his rookie season and averaged 38 passing attempts/23.0 fantasy points per game in his final six weeks An uptick in passing volume won't help Burrow's efficiency per se, but his fantasy numbers will be much more stable from week to week. Also can't forget to mention the Bengals revamped their offensive line as they look to not let their franchise quarterback get sacked 70 times - 22 more than the next closest quarterback. |
Derek Brown FantasyPros | Last season was another tale of two halves for Kyler Murray. In Weeks 1-8, with DeAndre Hopkins healthy, he was on fire as the QB6 completing 72.6% of his passes with 8.8 yards per attempt while averaging 284.5 passing yards per game. After Week 9, with Hopkins banged up and in and out of the lineup, Murray was the QB16 with a 65.3% completion rate, 6.7 yards per attempt, and 251.8 passing yards per game. Fast forward to this season, and Hopkins is now slated to miss the first six games of the season. The trade to acquire Marquise Brown's services and drafting Trey McBride will help, but it's understandable to tread carefully with Kyler Murray exposure this season. | |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/2: DeAndre Hopkins' suspension hurts, even with Marquise Brown now here | His line has improved from a Bottom-10 Unit to a potential Top-5 unit with an entirely new right side featuring La'El Collins, Alex Cappa, and Ted Karras. This improvement cannot be understated - it's so huge. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Murray had a monster year despite missing 3 games, finishing with 9 games where he scored more than 20 fantasy points and 3 games where he was the leading quarterback scorer. He should be an elite fantasy QB in 2022 if he can stay healthy and play 17 games. The addition of Hollywood Brown gives him a playmaker in the vertical passing game, but the 6-game suspension of DeAndre Hopkins keeps him out of the elite fantasy QB tier. | Burrow had 4,611 passing yards and 34 passing TDs in the 2021 fantasy season and he should be poised for another monster year on one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL that helped lead the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance. He should benefit from the Bengals signing three veteran offensive lineman in free agency, which was their biggest weakness on offense. |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | The surface stats (yardage, TDs) suggest that Murray stagnated in 2021, but the efficiency numbers (completion percentage, YPA, passer rating) indicate continued growth as a passer. A season-ending DeAndre Hopkins injury may have contributed to Murray's late-season downturn. But it's fair to wonder whether Kliff Kingsbury is capable of getting the best out of Murray. A downturn in rushing numbers makes Murray's 819-yard, 11-TD rushing performance in 2020 look more like an outlier than the norm. | In his second NFL season, Burrow averaged 8.9 yards per pass attempt. Tom Brady never had a season with a YPA that high, and Aaron Rodgers has reached that number only once. And consider that when Burrow's marvelous season began, he was less than a year removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL. Burrow also has the superb young WR duo of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to make his job easier. |
