Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | Justin Herbert finished third in touchdowns and fifth in PFF passing grade (91.8) from a clean pocket in 2021. The Bolts quarterback also wrapped up the season as PFF's third-highest-graded quarterback overall, third in fantasy points per game (22.7) and fifth in expected fantasy points per game (21.7) The Los Angeles Chargers signal-caller is a certified stud - a top-five, elite-tier fantasy quarterback in 2022. Only Tom Brady and Josh Allen posted as many top-5 weeks as Herbert did last season. He and Brady led the NFL with nine 300-yard passing games. Since entering the NFL in 2020, Herbert has thrown for 300-plus yards in 53% of his games played. Even if his rushing doesn't stack up with the league's elite, Herbert's cannon provides almost everything he needs to close the gap. | DeAndre Hopkins is being suspended six games for violating the NFL's Performance Enhancing Drug policy. This penalty has massive fantasy football repercussions for the Arizona Cardinals offense starting with quarterback Kyler Murray. Murray's production dipped last season without Hopkins in the lineup over the final four weeks of the season. He averaged 18.8 fantasy points per game and 6.3 yards per pass attempt. Murray averaged 24.9 fantasy points per game and 8.7 yards per attempt in the nine games with Hopkins fully healthy. He also posted the No. 1-ranked PFF passing grade (90.5). Losing Hopkins for six games cannot be ignored, but the addition of Marquise Brown figures to make up for some of the lost production. |
Derek Brown FantasyPros | Last season was another tale of two halves for Kyler Murray. In Weeks 1-8, with DeAndre Hopkins healthy, he was on fire as the QB6 completing 72.6% of his passes with 8.8 yards per attempt while averaging 284.5 passing yards per game. After Week 9, with Hopkins banged up and in and out of the lineup, Murray was the QB16 with a 65.3% completion rate, 6.7 yards per attempt, and 251.8 passing yards per game. Fast forward to this season, and Hopkins is now slated to miss the first six games of the season. The trade to acquire Marquise Brown's services and drafting Trey McBride will help, but it's understandable to tread carefully with Kyler Murray exposure this season.
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/2: DeAndre Hopkins' suspension hurts, even with Marquise Brown now here
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Herbert finished the 2021 season with 7 straight games of finishing as a Top-12 fantasy quarterback and the sky is the limit as he enters his third year in the NFL. He is a elite QB1 in 2022. | Murray had a monster year despite missing 3 games, finishing with 9 games where he scored more than 20 fantasy points and 3 games where he was the leading quarterback scorer. He should be an elite fantasy QB in 2022 if he can stay healthy and play 17 games. The addition of Hollywood Brown gives him a playmaker in the vertical passing game, but the 6-game suspension of DeAndre Hopkins keeps him out of the elite fantasy QB tier. |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | There was no sophomore slump for Herbert, who was QB9 in fantasy scoring as a rookie and finished QB2 in 2021 despite getting a new offensive coordinator and new system. Consistently productive, Herbert either threw multiple TD passes or had 300+ passing yards in 15 of 17 starts last season. He has a howitzer for an arm and adds value with his legs. Expect the ascent to continue. | The surface stats (yardage, TDs) suggest that Murray stagnated in 2021, but the efficiency numbers (completion percentage, YPA, passer rating) indicate continued growth as a passer. A season-ending DeAndre Hopkins injury may have contributed to Murray's late-season downturn. But it's fair to wonder whether Kliff Kingsbury is capable of getting the best out of Murray. A downturn in rushing numbers makes Murray's 819-yard, 11-TD rushing performance in 2020 look more like an outlier than the norm. |
