Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Unfortunately, Allen's fantasy outlook is pretty bleak this season. The Chargers are changing offensive philosophies and the passing volume simply isn't going to be there for Allen. In my opinion, Allen's nothing more than a low-end WR2/WR3 in 2020, which means he's being over-drafted at this point.Unfortunately, Samuel recently suffered an injury that puts his availability for the beginning of the NFL season in jeopardy. He now has more competition at the position for targets too with Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Taylor back in the fold. Samuel's a WR4 with upside right now, in my opinion.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Many have underrated Allen for a long time, though it may be time for the tables to turn, as I'm somewhat down on the top-tier route runner. With Tyrod Taylor and/or Justin Herbert under center, the Chargers are not going to be throwing the ball a whole lot. There were nearly 600 targets to go around last year, which could be cut down to around the 500 mark, and that would severely impact Allen's targets. Not just that, but his efficiency is likely to come down with the decline in quarterback play. His talent should help get him into WR2 territory, but I think the days of him being a WR1 are in the rearview mirror. It was odd to see Samuel finish as a top-30 wide receiver last year, because it didn't feel that way throughout the year. He saw just 81 targets and had just two games with more than eight targets. The 49ers offense is going to be run-heavy, but Samuel will be the go-to guy when they do drop back to pass. He's also included in the run-game, as evidenced by his 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns last year. It's tough to see him having a true breakout season, especially when he suffered a broken foot during offseason training. The rumor is that he may not even be ready for Week 1 of the season. When a pass-catcher has foot surgery in the same calendar year, it usually means bad things for fantasy purposes. You may want to wait until 2021 to invest a redraft pick on the young receiver.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Samuel suffered a broken foot (a Jones fracture, near the mid-point of the foot) on June 16th and had surgery that same day. He's been given a 10-week timetable for his return to action - six weeks for the fracture to heal plus four weeks to gradually return to playing shape - which would put him back to full speed in late-August and on track to start the season with the 49ers. It's worth noting, however, that Trent Taylor suffered an identical injury last year and, because of issues during the surgery, wound up missing the season. There's no reason to expect an identical fate for Samuel, but it's a cautionary tale that warrants consideration as we head into draft season. For now, it's worth considering drafting Samuel as a borderline WR3, but that ranking will likely shift depending on how the news of his recovery plays out.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Deebo Samuel suffered a broken foot on Tuesday (6/16) during a throwing session with teammates in Nashville and will be having surgery. It is being reported as a Jones fracture, and that he should be able to be on the field early in the season. That doesn't add up for me, Jones fractures are NOT good or easy recovery, in fact they often need a second surgery from what I understand. I'm staying away.
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
A broken foot has me dropping him well outside of my top-30 WRs.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
No 13 WR in FAN PPG from Weeks 10-17 - SF not a pass-heavy attack, but will likely open up a little more for in 2020, with Deebo and TE Kittle hogging those targets
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Has always found a way to gobble up targets. Won't get a firm rank on him until a QB decision but appears to be a safe WR2. Has been on the verge of disappointing on his ADP multiple seasons, might just do it this year when he can't complain to Phil for targets, for a late season surge. Tyrod's leading WR stat line in CLE: 15 targets, 7/106 7 targets, 5/69 That concludes our sample haha. He's never had more than 3100 passing yards or 436 attempts in a season so someone is underperforming if Herbert doesn't step in, and then we're relying on a rookie QB, so...A little worried about the ceiling anyone can have on the passing side in the way this current offense is set up. They've gone from to 2nd, 20th, and 29th in passing the last 3 years while moving up from 22nd, to 11th, and then 2nd in rushing attempts. This is the offense that Shanahan has built and I'm not sure anyone besides Kittle will lead the team in targets and Kittle barely got over 100 this year. His YAC ability will have to pave his way to success. The Pros: Sanders AVG 5.3 TGT/GAME with the 49ers over 10 weeks. During that time, Deebo was WR18, scoring less than 12 fantasy points only twice in that span. As much as Aiyuk might be a pest, to give him the same target volume as what Sanders earned would put him at 3 more targets his rookie year than what Deebo logged. Bringing Aiyuk in was more indicative of the other supporting WRs and exit of Sanders. A sneaky rushing base also helps boost Deebo's base. And while maintaining a strong run to pass ratio is what any team wants, we can't assume they will be bottom 10 in the league in pass ATT in 2020 again.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Allen had another strong, but inconsistent season with 1,215 yards from scrimmage and 6 touchdowns. I do not have a lot of hope for him if QB Tyrod Taylor remains the starter, that would make him a boom / bust WR3.
