Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 2/8 - I like Mike LaFleur as the new OC here, as he helped Mike White & Joe Flacco avg the most passing yards per game in pass-happy scripts. Expecting the Rams O to rebound big in 2023 | 5/26: DeAndre Hopkins released - this could signal a real "tank" for 2023, and I would not be surprised if Murray sat half, if not more, of the 2023 season -- his ceiling and floor have both dropped dramatically & Murray returns to a "Do Not Draft" 5/5: Promising recent steps in his recovery + an improved line + Hopkins here... things are looking up for Murray, a previous Top-5 No Brainer. Rumblings he may miss all of 2023 make Kyler undraftable in early offeason - but still so much upside even if you get only a half |
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Last December here's what Michael Lombardi, former NFL executive spoke about Matthew Stafford's health on his podcast, "The GM Shuffle". "There's a good chance, I would say better than 70% that Matthew Stafford doesn't play next year. I have a sense that...it's more than a hunch, it's talking to people in the league that maybe Stafford's body is breaking down." After seeing that statement from Michael Lombardi, unless those opinions have changed, the thought of drafting or ranking ANY Rams offensive player high scares the living hell out of me. Lombardi is pretty dialed in when it comes to news in the league. There are ominous signs in Los Angeles. Bust | Kyler Murray tore his ACL on Dec 12th. I'm at a loss why so many of my peers are ranking him so high. Most folks need 12 months to recover from a torn ACL. And many don't feel close to 100% until closer to two years after their operation. This is a serious injury folks. And Murray is not a typical QB who just throws from the pocket. He's undersized. He uses his mobility a lot to elude pass rushers and pick up valuable rushing yards. He's essentially a part-time RB. That's how he hurt his knee in the first place- scrambling. Quick cuts are the most difficult skill needed to do after tearing up a knee and that's all Kyler does. For many folks, there's doubt if the knee will hold up or if it will give out like it did before. I know this firsthand after tearing my ACL a long time ago. That can lead to unintentionally compensating for it which in turn, leads to other injuries such as hamstring strains. The Cardinals' offensive line is a work in progress. They added Paris Johnson in the first round, but they need to upgrade it further. In addition, DeAndre Hopkins is most likely headed out of town. So Murray will lose his top WR threat. And they're not a good team. They'll be in the running for the top overall pick in next year's draft. There's little incentive to rush Murray back once they're eliminated from the playoffs. There's a good chance they just redshirt him this year, and play the long game by letting Murray fully recover. My advice- don't burn a draft pick and a bench spot waiting for Murray to comeback in 2023, because there's a very real chance that might not happen. Bust |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | After leading the Rams to a championship two seasons ago, Matthew Stafford struggled through the first nine games of 2022 before a spinal cord contusion ended his season. In 2021, Stafford averaged 287.4 passing yards per game and threw for 41 touchdowns. Last year, he averaged 231.9 passing yards and threw for 10 touchdowns. Stafford has become increasingly interception-prone in his twilight years, with 25 INTs in his last 26 regular-season games. The 35-year-old Stafford might have fuel left in the tank, but the red flags in his statistical profile make him a low-end QB2 for 2023. | Kyler Murray will pose an interesting dilemma for fantasy drafters in 2023. A dangerous dual-threat QB who's averaged 21.2 fantasy points over 57 NFL starts, Murray tore his ACL on Dec. 12 and may not be ready for the start of the season, so his recovery will have to be monitored closely over the summer. Murray regressed as a passer in 2022, averaging just 6.1 yards per attempt. But Murray finished QB2 in fantasy scoring in 2020, and at his best he's a difference-making quarterback who can rack up fantasy points with both his arm and his legs. |
