Lineups
Tampa Bay had an amazing fantasy football season as Jameis Winston helmed one of the highest-octane offenses despite his 30 interceptions. With Tom Brady under center, the offense will be much more conservative and less turnover-prone. That will mean they won't need to push the pace as much or throw as much as last year, hence the collective opinion on Evans being down. However, him slipping to the third round in some leagues is absurd. Evans has been one of the league's best receiver in the past six seasons - despite poor QB play, he's never had fewer than 1,000 yards in a season. The touchdowns have been a bit inconsistent, but Brady is a terrific red zone passer and the Tampa running backs may not be enough. Evans has had 12-touchdown seasons in the past and it wouldn't necessarily be a surprise to see him do it again. Don't overthink this - one of the best quarterbacks in the league is pairing up with one of the best receivers. Greatness should ensue.

Despite Bruce Arians replacing Dirk Koetter as Tampa's head coach in 2019, the Bucs' passing game looked similar to previous seasons. Arians hammers home the "no risk it, no biscuit" philosophy of attacking downfield, which plays to Evans' strengths. His numbers should benefit from the arrival of Tom Brady, who is a far more accurate passer than Jameis Winston.Although Smith-Schuster moved into Pittsburgh's No. 1 receiver role after the team's trade of Antonio Brown prior to last season, his 2019 wasn't what fantasy owners were expecting. That was due in large part to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffering a season-ending injury in Week 2, and neither Mason Rudolph nor Duck Hodges emerging as an adequate replacement.

In just 13 games in 2019, Evans had 6 games with fewer than double-digit fantasy points in half-PPR. His weekly upside is huge, but his floor is too low for an ADP this high. Addtionally, according to AirYards.com, Evans' average depth of target (aDOT) has been 14.0-plus in each of his six seasons in the league. Now he's playing with Brady, a passer whose aDOT is generally under 8.0 these days.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Mike Evans turned in his sixth consecutive 1000 yard season despite playing just 13 games and passing 100 yards on only three occasions. He once again mastered the blow-up game with each of those big games topping 180 yards and 30 half-ppr fantasy points. In best ball that makes him a great option but in redraft it makes him a terrifying weekly play if you draft him too early. That aspect locks him into his third-round price tag... or does it? Tom Brady is now in town and Evans could well benefit more than most realize. Brady still has a good deep ball and likes to unleash it on rare occasions when the receiver is good enough. Evans is always good enough. I like his upside but be wary of his weekly variance. It's very difficult to project JuJu in 2020. After an amazing pair of breakout seasons, he massively disappointed thanks to injury and awful QB play. While Big Ben is back, JuJu remains a question mark thanks to the emergence of Diontae Johnson and James Washington and the arrival of Chase Claypool and Eric Ebron. I hope to see JuJu man the slot and get a large target volume but he remains a big risk you should avoid in the first two-three rounds.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There are a lot of people who'll point out the fact that Evans finished as a WR1 in 2019 despite missing three games. Well, I hate to break it to you, but he was not a WR1 in terms that actually matter to you, the fantasy player. Despite averaging an elite 9.1 targets per game, Evans posted WR2 or better-type numbers in just 38.5 percent of his games. That ranked 28th among wide receivers. Seriously, guys like Sterling Shepard, Cole Beasley, and Jamison Crowder had higher percentages. Now you take away Jameis Winston, someone who was more than willing to throw the ball into tight coverage all the time, and swap him with one of the most risk averse quarterbacks in football? Evans' 2.4 yards of separation at target was one of the worst marks among wide receivers, and while it doesn't tell the full story, those who watch Evans knows he uses his body extremely well to box out defenders rather than gain multiple yards of separation with precision route running. Look, he's still a good player who's totaled at least 1,000 yards in each of his first six NFL seasons, so I'm not completely writing him off, though it does help that he's seen at least 8.7 targets per game over the last five years. I don't think Brady is as bad as some think at throwing the deep ball anymore, I just don't think he does it nearly as often as Winston did/was willing to. I'm expecting a slight dip in targets and less air yards, which in turn, equals less production for a player like Evans. It's not bad if you land him as your WR2, but I wouldn't recommend him as a WR1.Did everyone forget just how talented Smith-Schuster is because he had a down year in 2019? He played through multiple injuries and dealt with what was probably the worst quarterback situation in the league. In Week 1 and Week 2, when Ben Roethlisberger was on the field, Smith-Schuster saw 16 targets, catching 11 of them for 162 yards. Not too shabby. Insert bad quarterbacks, paired with Smith-Schuster trying to run routes from the perimeter, and it was a recipe for disaster. The Steelers have vowed to put him back in the slot where he belongs, and he's getting back Roethlisberger, who's continually supported fantasy receivers throughout his long career. Going all the way back to 2008, Ben Roethlisberger's No. 1 and No. 2 wide receivers combined for at least 225 targets on eight different occasions, including 334 times when he had Antonio Brown and Smith-Schuster in 2018. With Roethlisberger on the field, the Steelers haven't thrown the ball less than 584 times since way back in 2012. It's hard to see a scenario where Smith-Schuster doesn't see at least 130 targets if he's healthy (that would be just a 22.2 percent target share), which is elite volume, so even if he's average, he'd be a high-end WR2. I'll leave you with this... Smith-Schuster posted 1,426 yards in his second NFL season at the age of 22. There are just six players who posted more yardage in one of their first two seasons. The list includes Isaac Bruce, Josh Gordon, Torry Holt, Jerry Rice, Victor Cruz, and Odell Beckham Jr. We can't pretend Smith-Schuster is anywhere close to average. He's worth a third-round pick in drafts, even though many are getting him in the fourth.

I have a feeling Brady to Evans will be the undefendable duo this season.A healthy Big Ben is the key for top 10 WR fantasy territory

Evans is the forgotten man in fantasy, and one of the most consistent we've seen. He should be Brady's best friend near the end zone, and is a safe pick for teams who hold off on the top tier. The prototypical bounceback pick. If we took him as a WR1 in 2019, and Ben went down, what has changed? Very little. JuJu is a dynamite pick at ADP

Unlike his fellow Bucs WR Chris Godwin, I see the switch from Winston to Brady as a slight downgrade for Evans. With Winston at QB, Evans was known for being a deep threat and someone who would get plenty of 50/50 type balls. I don't expect that to continue with Brady at QB. That being said, it should make Evans more consistent even if it lowers his ceiling a bit.Heading into the 2019 season there wasn't a WR more primed for a breakout than Juju Smith-Schuster and then Ben Roethlisberger got hurt. That changed Juju's entire season turning him from a WR1 to a WR3 pretty quickly. Now, with BIg Ben slated to return, Juju has a legitimate shot to finish as a WR1 in 2020. We know he has the talent, now it's just about Roethlisberger and himself staying healthy.

Evans is SO damn good.. but will Brady give him as many one-to-ones as Jameis was willing to? Does he have the arm to fully unload? I think yes, but he concerns me more than Godwin with this switchCould rebound in a huge way w/ Big Ben back, but the emergences of Diontae Johnson and James Washington as real talents could cloud the previous target-hog role he was destined for. And who knows if he can truly handle No.1 corners? The Alphas are typically more QB Proof than this.

QB Brady is still throwing a decent deep ball, which should help one of NFL's premier power forward receiving targets top 1,000 yards for a 7th straight seasonBackend WR2 production thru Week 8 with QB Rudolph, but injuries (to JuJu, Rudolph) derailed 2nd half - Big Ben's return should help restore JuJu to WR Top 15

If anything, haven't we learned that it doesn't matter what position you play if you're talented? Brady's used Cooks, Moss, Edelman, Gronk.. I had a stat that I didn't know what to do with in Godwin's notes that is also obviously relevant here. Evan's reliance on the deep ball is over stated. Not only on counting stats, but also behind the scenes in reception perception. Mike Evans is good at separating against man and press coverage and while he's elite at contested catches, that doesn't have to be his game. We should stop knocking an all around good WR for being exceptionally good on deep balls. He definitely didn't take hold of the alpha roll in Pittsburgh but I think the season is mostly a wash because of the QB change. It was a bit concerning that he was outpaced in targets by Diontae. And before he gets some hype from Big Ben returning let's not forget he had less targets than Washington, and Diontae, yes he played 80 less snaps but I have my concerns. And if the rumors of not resigning him are true, and with the addition of Claypool, the Steelers apparently have concerns as well.

Evans could see a slight step backwards with Tom Brady behind center now, but he's still going to be incredibly productive. Brady can still air the ball out downfield and those targets are incredibly valuable for Evans' fantasy production. Brady's going to learn to trust Evans early on and he'll see plenty of targets this year. Evans should be a consistent WR2 option all season long with upside.Smith-Schuster hurt a lot of people last season with his performance combined with the price you had to pay to get him in drafts. However, Big Ben is back behind center this season, which is crucial for the offense's success a whole. While I don't believe Juju has top-5 fantasy potential this season, he should be in the conversation for a low-end WR1/high-end WR2 all year long.

What he loses in volume will be offset with accuracy. He got 120 targets and caught 67. He could turn that same 120 into 85 with TB12. @DFFMemphisA quick reminder Juju is still having a historic start to his career. He will be entering next season at only 23 years. Screaming buy after a down 2019 season.

Evans had 1,157 yards receiving and eight receiving touchdowns as the deep threat in this offense. He is probably the player most hurt by the acquisition of QB Tom Brady, Brady has always been more about short passes and his arm strength was suspect at the end of last year.A combination of 4 missed games and playing with 2nd and 3rd string quarterbacks derailed Smith-Schuster in 2019. He should rebound from 42 receptions, 552 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns, especially if Big Ben is healthy and the Big Ben of old.
