Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | There's always danger whenever trusting a Patriots RB to be a bell cow. If the past has taught us anything, Bill Belichick loves to use a RBBC. However, with Damien Harris leaving for Buffalo in free agency, it sure seems like Cape Cod is parting for Rhomondre Stevenson to run right through it. James Robinson was brought in, but he's on his third team in two years. It's hard to picture him returning to his prior form after the dreaded torn Achilles injury he suffered. Pierre Strong could be a factor in the passing game, however, Stevenson does that well too. He had a whopping 69 receptions last year. The biggest concern is the Patriots' anemic offense. It never got on track last year. Maybe new offensive coordinator, Bill Bradley, can get them back on track? He can't do much worse. If he can, Stevenson could be sitting on a monster year. You're gonna need a bigger boat, I mean scoreboard. Fantasy Chief Brody Ringo | The word on the street is that the Vikings aren't bringing back star RB Dalvin Cook. Cook is still electric with the ball. It's more about the salary cap than a decline in his play. Possible landing spots include Miami, N.Y. Jets, L.A. Rams, Dallas, Cleveland, etc. I guess you could say Minnesota thought it had too many Cooks in the kitchen haha! Players might switch teams over the years but don't worry. Ringo's bad jokes will always be there for you haha! Stay tuned. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 6/3: Ty Montgomery is back and ready to be a MAJOR nuisance -- already operating as the lead third down RB. As good as Rhamondre is, his value was heavily inflated by the receiving role. This is bad news for Stevenson 5/5: While Belichick can be notoriously fickle, the Patriots have continued to churn out Top-10 Team Backfields for years on end. Rhamondre may have the ultimate workhorse role in this productive offense with no Rookie RBs added, Damien Harris removed, and only James Robinson as new competition. 3/17: James Robinson signing feels like a blessing, as that's a downgrade from Damien Harris -- unless James Robinson makes an enormous recovery. Rhamondre feels likely for the 60-65% weekly workload in an RB-centric offense. Sign me up. Could see his GL role getting eaten into which would be BRUTAL though | 5/5: Still a rumored cut candidate... tough to go in on Cook despite his historic success. He looked Cookd lst year. 3/17: Mattison back, and not on the cheap. Could this be a threat for Dalvin? Or could he be traded to a juicier situation? |
Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | I'll be honest, I'm still terrified of New England RBs. However, Stevenson made a great case for why that fear is in the past. After averaging 67% of snaps last season, Stevenson took over this backfield. This may not be an exciting offense, but one thing we know for sure is that they are committed to running the ball. I think Stevenson is a lower ceiling, volume RB for this season. | |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Always have to be concerned about banking on a Belichick back, but RB depth chart shows little reason to not build on his 2022 breakout | Like Mixon, some worry that MIN is looking to move on from Cook, but he's worth a Round 3 gamble given talent, 4 straight Top 15 RB finishes |
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | Damien Harris has been replaced by human meat shield James Robinson on a monopoly money and heavily incentive-based contract making him no lock to make the roster. The low commitment suggests that Rhamondre Stevenson's role in 2023 will be more of what we saw from Weeks 5-16 when he was the RB13 in points per game as the Patriots' lead back. And even when Harris played alongside Stevenson, the big running back finished third in route participation (58%) and targets (82) among running backs. Recall that Stevenson's strong campaign en route to an RB10 finish was not fueled by touchdowns. Stevenson was one of the worst RBs converting from inside the 10-yard line as he scored just thrice despite 19 goal-line carries. His teammate Harris scored thrice from inside the 10, on just 6 carries. If Stevenson experiences positive TD regression with the red zone role all but his, he will build off a strong sophomore season as PFF's 11th-highest graded rusher. It's his backfield with little competition for touches in an offense that should be substantially better than last season. | We may have finally seen the end of Dalvin Cook's elite status among fantasy RBs in 2022. The Vikings star RB finished dead last among all ball carries in rushing EPA and rushes for zero or negative yardage. Cook ended the season as the RB8 overall and RB10 in points per game despite earning the league's 4th-highest opportunity share (78%). With Minnesota re-investing in the running back position with Alexander Mattison returning, we could see Cook's role on offense reduced in 2023. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Stevenson tallied 986 yards rushing, 393 yards receiving, and 6 TDs in the 2022 fantasy season. If he had posted double-digit TDs, he would have been an elite RB1. He still has a ton of upside at 25 years old on a team that loves to run the football and has an upgrade at offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien. | Cook had 1,136 yards rushing, 295 yards receiving, and 11 touchdowns in the fantasy season. He has not been the same TD scorer that he was in 2019 and 2020, when he tallied 30 TDs in those 2 seasons, but he is still a very good RB1. |
