Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Najee Harris had a rough 2022. The Steelers offensive line struggled and he injured his foot in August. Despite those issues, he still finished as the 12th-ranked RB. There are reasons for fantasy owners to be optimistic in 2023. Harris should be healthy. That's always a good thing when entering the season. In addition, the Steelers upgraded their offensive line. They signed Isaac Seumalo and drafted OT Broderick Jones and TE Darnell Washington. All three should help improve the Steelers' blocking. The biggest concern is at QB. Can Kenny Pickett be the franchise QB the Steelers desperately need? He wasn't rated high by scouts in what was considered a weak draft for QBs. For the Steelers' offense and Harris to reach their potential, both need Pickett to take the next step. Najee's ADP is currently at RB 13. That's about fair value. However, if Pickett improves I guess you could say Najee could be a "steal" on draft day. (They're the Steelers, you'd be stealing him in drafts. No? Nothing? Haha! ) On the flip side, if Pickett is worse than my lame jokes, Najee owners could be in real trouble haha! --Najee Ringo | There's always danger whenever trusting a Patriots RB to be a bell cow. If the past has taught us anything, Bill Belichick loves to use a RBBC. However, with Damien Harris leaving for Buffalo in free agency, it sure seems like Cape Cod is parting for Rhomondre Stevenson to run right through it. James Robinson was brought in, but he's on his third team in two years. It's hard to picture him returning to his prior form after the dreaded torn Achilles injury he suffered. Pierre Strong could be a factor in the passing game, however, Stevenson does that well too. He had a whopping 69 receptions last year. The biggest concern is the Patriots' anemic offense. It never got on track last year. Maybe new offensive coordinator, Bill Bradley, can get them back on track? He can't do much worse. If he can, Stevenson could be sitting on a monster year. You're gonna need a bigger boat, I mean scoreboard. Fantasy Chief Brody Ringo |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/5: Line beefed up considerably with Broderick Jones + also Issac Seumalo & Nate Herbig (former Eagles), no competition added, fresh off a Top-5 finish to 2023, w could see Workhorse Najee re-emerge within a better overall offense. Sign me back up Finally looked healthy down 2022 stretch (was RB5 over last 10), could be huge rebound candidate. Hate that Matt Canada is back. | 6/3: Ty Montgomery is back and ready to be a MAJOR nuisance -- already operating as the lead third down RB. As good as Rhamondre is, his value was heavily inflated by the receiving role. This is bad news for Stevenson 5/5: While Belichick can be notoriously fickle, the Patriots have continued to churn out Top-10 Team Backfields for years on end. Rhamondre may have the ultimate workhorse role in this productive offense with no Rookie RBs added, Damien Harris removed, and only James Robinson as new competition. 3/17: James Robinson signing feels like a blessing, as that's a downgrade from Damien Harris -- unless James Robinson makes an enormous recovery. Rhamondre feels likely for the 60-65% weekly workload in an RB-centric offense. Sign me up. Could see his GL role getting eaten into which would be BRUTAL though |
Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Najee Harris is the definition of workload production on a mediocre offense. However, despite running behind a Kenny Pickett-led offense, as well as battling injuries, Harris managed 10 touchdowns in 2022. You have to think that both the team's production and offensive line make a jump this season, making him one of the rare workhorse backs with weekly TD upside. | I'll be honest, I'm still terrified of New England RBs. However, Stevenson made a great case for why that fear is in the past. After averaging 67% of snaps last season, Stevenson took over this backfield. This may not be an exciting offense, but one thing we know for sure is that they are committed to running the ball. I think Stevenson is a lower ceiling, volume RB for this season. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Drop from No. 4 RB in 2021 to No. 14 RB in 2022 almost entirely the fault of receiving decline (33 fewer catches, 238 less recYds) | Always have to be concerned about banking on a Belichick back, but RB depth chart shows little reason to not build on his 2022 breakout |
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | The Pittsburgh Steelers running back took a slight step backward in his second season, falling to RB14 in points per game after a top-5 fantasy season as a rookie. However, his usage metrics were still very strong across the board. Harris still operated as a pseudo-workhorse ranking 6th in opportunity share (70%) and 8th in total touches through the first 17 weeks of the season. Harris also improved drastically after the team's bye week operating as the RB7 in points per game over the last 9 weeks of the season. After tallying zero games with 20 carries through the first 8 weeks, Harris totaled 5 games with 20-plus carries during the second half of 2022. Should the Steelers undergo an offensive surge in Kenny Pickett's second season with a drastically improved offensive line, Harris could easily get back into the top-tier fantasy RB tier. | Damien Harris has been replaced by human meat shield James Robinson on a monopoly money and heavily incentive-based contract making him no lock to make the roster. The low commitment suggests that Rhamondre Stevenson's role in 2023 will be more of what we saw from Weeks 5-16 when he was the RB13 in points per game as the Patriots' lead back. And even when Harris played alongside Stevenson, the big running back finished third in route participation (58%) and targets (82) among running backs. Recall that Stevenson's strong campaign en route to an RB10 finish was not fueled by touchdowns. Stevenson was one of the worst RBs converting from inside the 10-yard line as he scored just thrice despite 19 goal-line carries. His teammate Harris scored thrice from inside the 10, on just 6 carries. If Stevenson experiences positive TD regression with the red zone role all but his, he will build off a strong sophomore season as PFF's 11th-highest graded rusher. It's his backfield with little competition for touches in an offense that should be substantially better than last season. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Harris was not an efficient back last year, averaging just 3.8 yards per carry and 5.5 yards receiving behind one a weak offensive line. Harris tallied 954 yards rushing, 219 yards receiving, and 9 TDs in the fantasy season. The Steelers improved their line in the NFL Draft and if Kenny Pickett takes a step forward in his second year, Harris should be a low-end RB1. | Stevenson tallied 986 yards rushing, 393 yards receiving, and 6 TDs in the 2022 fantasy season. If he had posted double-digit TDs, he would have been an elite RB1. He still has a ton of upside at 25 years old on a team that loves to run the football and has an upgrade at offensive coordinator, Bill O'Brien. |
Tera Roberts Dynasty Vipers | Health was an issue in 2022. Harris had a strong finish to the season and will bounce back in 2023 at full health and pay off for where he's drafted. |
