Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Pollard is an electric RB. He showed his running chops that last season. Many folks have been clamoring for him to be "the guy". With Zeke out of the picture as of this writing in mid-May, most analysts are penciling him in for a bell-cow role. I have my doubts. For one, he's coming off a broken leg in late January 2023. Second, the word on the street is that Pollard won't hold up under a full workload- and that was when he was 100% healthy. And right now he's coming into training camp rehabbing from a broken leg & high ankle sprain. He should be ready, but it's not ideal. Finally, Dallas is even open to bringing Zeke back or signing another free-agent RB to alleviate Pollard's workload. Watch out for Leonard Fournette folks! Fournette's power-rushing style would be a good fit to handle the short-yardage duties. With Pollard's ADP currently at a lofty RB 7, that's pricing him at his ceiling imo. It's too rich for Fantasy Marshall Mark Ringo, despite his explosive playmaking ability. I'll be moseying on to draft another player instead. And for putting up with my awful Western puns. much oblige. Haha! Overvalued | Najee Harris had a rough 2022. The Steelers offensive line struggled and he injured his foot in August. Despite those issues, he still finished as the 12th-ranked RB. There are reasons for fantasy owners to be optimistic in 2023. Harris should be healthy. That's always a good thing when entering the season. In addition, the Steelers upgraded their offensive line. They signed Isaac Seumalo and drafted OT Broderick Jones and TE Darnell Washington. All three should help improve the Steelers' blocking. The biggest concern is at QB. Can Kenny Pickett be the franchise QB the Steelers desperately need? He wasn't rated high by scouts in what was considered a weak draft for QBs. For the Steelers' offense and Harris to reach their potential, both need Pickett to take the next step. Najee's ADP is currently at RB 13. That's about fair value. However, if Pickett improves I guess you could say Najee could be a "steal" on draft day. (They're the Steelers, you'd be stealing him in drafts. No? Nothing? Haha! ) On the flip side, if Pickett is worse than my lame jokes, Najee owners could be in real trouble haha! --Najee Ringo |
Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Pollard has become the new fantasy darling this offseason. As soon as Ezekiel Elliott was released, it was full steam ahead for the explosive back. Although Zeke could still sign back with the Cowboys, or they could sign another veteran, Pollard is going to be the lead guy. If they do sign another notable back this offseason I will move him down to around RB12. My concern about them signing another back is that even with Zeke losing a step last season and battling injuries, Pollard only surpassed 60% of snaps twice. As a result, I'm worried his perceived workload is not as locked in as many believe. | Najee Harris is the definition of workload production on a mediocre offense. However, despite running behind a Kenny Pickett-led offense, as well as battling injuries, Harris managed 10 touchdowns in 2022. You have to think that both the team's production and offensive line make a jump this season, making him one of the rare workhorse backs with weekly TD upside. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Finished RB7 in half-PPR in 2022 despite fewer touches than any other RB in the Top 19 - with Zeke gone, touch volume no longer an issue | Drop from No. 4 RB in 2021 to No. 14 RB in 2022 almost entirely the fault of receiving decline (33 fewer catches, 238 less recYds) |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/8: Only the miniscule Deuce Vaughn has been added so far this offseason, while Zeke remains unsigned (though the team may bring back). The full Pollard unleashing should be coming in an even run-heavier Cowboys attack (Schottenheimer), and Pollard has consistently maintained his efficiency even when the volume spikes (over 30 FPs in his 2 starts the past two seasons) 3/17: To the moon. Zeke officially gone. Even run-heavier scheme. Only anchor to this rocket ship would be if those Bijan Robinson rumors end up being true. For now, treat as a true RB1. 3/7: Officially Franchised. Will benefit from run-heavy philosophy switch, but less explosive offense, same RBBC as last year + recovering from injury makes him less sexy than if he had escaped to elsewhere | 5/5: Line beefed up considerably with Broderick Jones + also Issac Seumalo & Nate Herbig (former Eagles), no competition added, fresh off a Top-5 finish to 2023, w could see Workhorse Najee re-emerge within a better overall offense. Sign me back up Finally looked healthy down 2022 stretch (was RB5 over last 10), could be huge rebound candidate. Hate that Matt Canada is back. |
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | Tony Pollard will play for the Cowboys on the franchise tag in 2023. Ezekiel Elliott has already been released after showing a major lack of juice as a rusher in 2022, averaging a career-low 3.7 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Pollard finished the season as the fantasy RB7 - despite ranking outside the top 25 in touches per game - as PFF's 3rd-highest graded running back. Pollard scored more fantasy points than any other running back (19.3 per game) from Weeks 7-16 when he was consistently playing 53% or more of the snaps as the team's featured back. The team added Ronald Jones in free agency and drafted Deuce Vaughn late on Day 3, but neither are threats to a healthy Pollard's touch volume. | The Pittsburgh Steelers running back took a slight step backward in his second season, falling to RB14 in points per game after a top-5 fantasy season as a rookie. However, his usage metrics were still very strong across the board. Harris still operated as a pseudo-workhorse ranking 6th in opportunity share (70%) and 8th in total touches through the first 17 weeks of the season. Harris also improved drastically after the team's bye week operating as the RB7 in points per game over the last 9 weeks of the season. After tallying zero games with 20 carries through the first 8 weeks, Harris totaled 5 games with 20-plus carries during the second half of 2022. Should the Steelers undergo an offensive surge in Kenny Pickett's second season with a drastically improved offensive line, Harris could easily get back into the top-tier fantasy RB tier. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The bad news was that Tony Pollard suffered a broken left leg and high ankle sprain in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. The good news is that the recovery is expected to take only 3 months. Pollard should be ready in Week 1 and he should be a great RB1 option with Ezekiel Elliott no longer on the team. | Harris was not an efficient back last year, averaging just 3.8 yards per carry and 5.5 yards receiving behind one a weak offensive line. Harris tallied 954 yards rushing, 219 yards receiving, and 9 TDs in the fantasy season. The Steelers improved their line in the NFL Draft and if Kenny Pickett takes a step forward in his second year, Harris should be a low-end RB1. |
Tera Roberts Dynasty Vipers | Health was an issue in 2022. Harris had a strong finish to the season and will bounce back in 2023 at full health and pay off for where he's drafted. |
