Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | Pollard is an electric RB. He showed his running chops that last season. Many folks have been clamoring for him to be "the guy". With Zeke out of the picture as of this writing in mid-May, most analysts are penciling him in for a bell-cow role. I have my doubts. For one, he's coming off a broken leg in late January 2023. Second, the word on the street is that Pollard won't hold up under a full workload- and that was when he was 100% healthy. And right now he's coming into training camp rehabbing from a broken leg & high ankle sprain. He should be ready, but it's not ideal. Finally, Dallas is even open to bringing Zeke back or signing another free-agent RB to alleviate Pollard's workload. Watch out for Leonard Fournette folks! Fournette's power-rushing style would be a good fit to handle the short-yardage duties. With Pollard's ADP currently at a lofty RB 7, that's pricing him at his ceiling imo. It's too rich for Fantasy Marshall Mark Ringo, despite his explosive playmaking ability. I'll be moseying on to draft another player instead. And for putting up with my awful Western puns. much oblige. Haha! Overvalued | Many analysts have Travis Etienne going pretty high this year. I'm not one of them though. The Jaguars had a great year in 2022. Doug Pederson completely turned the franchise around. They should be even better this year, especially on offense. I just don't know if Etienne's stats will be. Doug Pederson has never been a bell cow RB kind of guy. he believes in a RBBC so his RBs don't wear down. His time in Philadelphia showed that. The Jaguars also drafted Tank Bigsby in the third round. They want to reduce Etienne's workload. Bigsby is a tough inside runner. He'll probably assume the short-yardage role. I mean the guy's name is Tank for Pete's sake. When you have a guy named Tank, you have to use him in short yardage haha!! In addition, Etienne only had 35 receptions last year. Etienne's current ADP is RB 12. That's way too pricey for Mark Ringo considering the very real possibility Bigsby could vulture TDs at the goal line, even for a talented player like Etienne. Bust |
Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Pollard has become the new fantasy darling this offseason. As soon as Ezekiel Elliott was released, it was full steam ahead for the explosive back. Although Zeke could still sign back with the Cowboys, or they could sign another veteran, Pollard is going to be the lead guy. If they do sign another notable back this offseason I will move him down to around RB12. My concern about them signing another back is that even with Zeke losing a step last season and battling injuries, Pollard only surpassed 60% of snaps twice. As a result, I'm worried his perceived workload is not as locked in as many believe. | Etienne has seemingly flown under the radar this offseason. Despite the only threat being third-round bruiser Tank Bigsby. Every year you hear about a new player stepping into the "Alvin Kamara role", but few have the juice to succeed. Etienne is one of those players who can thrive on efficient touches and electric big-play ability. Although he will still lead the backfield, I don't think he needs 20+ touches a week to find himself as an RB-one this season. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Finished RB7 in half-PPR in 2022 despite fewer touches than any other RB in the Top 19 - with Zeke gone, touch volume no longer an issue | Finished RB17 in half-PPR as he was underserved in TDs (5) and receptions (35) - JAC not likely to increase his 2022 touch total (255) |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/8: Only the miniscule Deuce Vaughn has been added so far this offseason, while Zeke remains unsigned (though the team may bring back). The full Pollard unleashing should be coming in an even run-heavier Cowboys attack (Schottenheimer), and Pollard has consistently maintained his efficiency even when the volume spikes (over 30 FPs in his 2 starts the past two seasons) 3/17: To the moon. Zeke officially gone. Even run-heavier scheme. Only anchor to this rocket ship would be if those Bijan Robinson rumors end up being true. For now, treat as a true RB1. 3/7: Officially Franchised. Will benefit from run-heavy philosophy switch, but less explosive offense, same RBBC as last year + recovering from injury makes him less sexy than if he had escaped to elsewhere | 5/5: Tank Bigsby could prove to be an early-down & Red Zone nuisance (10 TDs in back to back years), but this certainly wasn't the most deterimental move possible for Travis Etienne. He'll maintain 60-65% of work in an ascending attack that continued to beef up the line. 3/17: Unscathed so far. Love to see it. |
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | Tony Pollard will play for the Cowboys on the franchise tag in 2023. Ezekiel Elliott has already been released after showing a major lack of juice as a rusher in 2022, averaging a career-low 3.7 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Pollard finished the season as the fantasy RB7 - despite ranking outside the top 25 in touches per game - as PFF's 3rd-highest graded running back. Pollard scored more fantasy points than any other running back (19.3 per game) from Weeks 7-16 when he was consistently playing 53% or more of the snaps as the team's featured back. The team added Ronald Jones in free agency and drafted Deuce Vaughn late on Day 3, but neither are threats to a healthy Pollard's touch volume. | From Weeks 7-17 - removing the game versus Baltimore when Travis Etienne left with an injury - the Jaguars running back averaged 15 fantasy points per game (RB8 in points per game) and was the standing RB10 in total half-points scored. ETN would proceed to finish the 2022 fantasy regular season tied for 5th in carries inside the 10-yard line (23), but he only scored four touchdowns on those carries. He's primed to see his TD numbers climb with the backfield all but his from the get-go in 2023 in ascending offense. Etienne also just scratched the surface of how he can contribute in the passing game. The receiving "role" has been his in terms of routes run most weeks in 2022, but targets did not always follow with Trevor Lawrence preferring Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Evan Engram - who all stayed healthy in 2022. If one of those guys goes down in 2023 we will probably see ETN see a boosted receiving role. The second-year rusher averaged a 22% target rate per route in 3 of his last four games played. No. 2 running back/pass-catcher JaMycal Hasty, former Cleveland Brown D'Ernest Johnson and 2023 third-rounder Tank Bigsby are behind him on the current depth chart. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The bad news was that Tony Pollard suffered a broken left leg and high ankle sprain in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. The good news is that the recovery is expected to take only 3 months. Pollard should be ready in Week 1 and he should be a great RB1 option with Ezekiel Elliott no longer on the team. | Etienne missed his entire rookie season, but bounced back in 2022 with 1,108 yards rushing, 299 yards receiving, and 8 TDs in the fantasy season. Jacksonville should be an offense on the rise in 2023 and Etienne should be a fantasy RB1 as their starting running back. |
