Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Did you know that Kelce has finished as a top-2 fantasy TE every year since 2016? It's simply remarkable what he's been able to do for so long and he's one of the most safe picks you can make in fantasy football. While there's a conversation to be had about when we can expect Kelce's age to start to show up, it's not worth having that until we see some sort of decline on the football field. If you prefer to go TE early, Kelce's worth the price of a premium pick.Is Hockenson incredibly talented? Yes. Is there a case to be made that he can lead this Lions offense in targets? Absolutely. However, the expectations for Hockenson right now are sky high and it's hard to see how he returns value. The scoring opportunities are going to be essentially non-existent for this team and we could see them at the bottom of the league in overall plays ran. Hockenson can soak up targets this season, but if he doesn't score plenty of touchdowns, he's going to disappoint fantasy managers that drafted him as a top-5 TE. He's being drafted at his absolute ceiling right now and that's something I simply can't get on board with, unfortunately. I'm avoiding Hockenson this season if his ADP remains around where it is right now.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
Kelce had a career year last year, so his numbers probably come back to earth a bit. He still plays for the most explosive offense in the league. And even if Kelce regresses a little, he still gives a fantasy owner a major edge at a barren position.Hockenson is probably the #1 receiving target for Jared Goff given the lousy core of wide receivers the Lions have with the departures of Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. However, the Lions want to be a physical team that features the run. I have concerns about their passing attack and offense in general. This is the same team that took former 2019 Outland Trophy winner LT Penei Sewell in the draft, and then, for reasons unknown, are playing him at RT. That's a tough transition. Sewell has struggled so far. Hockenson is going too high for me given the lack of offensive firepower here.
Brendan Tuma

Rob Gronkowski used to be the lone tight end fantasy managers would consider using a first-round pick on, but that distinction now belongs to Travis Kelce. Coming off a dominant season, Kelce enters his age 31-campaign in one of the most fantasy friendly situations situations of his career. Tied to Patrick Mahomes in a surprisingly narrow target distribution, Kelce is shaping up as an optimal draft selection in the back half of Round 1 this year. It's easy to become seduced by the potential volume Hockenson could see in Detroit's barely-there pass catching corps. The case for him is simple - Hockeson was a good prospect with elite draft capital and we're expecting growth in his portion of the team's target share. The concerns are that Hockenson's ADP is in a spot where tight ends are historically over drafted and that his situation caps upside. As the last option we can feel good about before the position begins free falling, Hockenson is ultimately worth considering at his current acquisition cost.

Kelce is a guy who gets a lot of love as a dominant TE, but how dominant has he truly been? Over the last five seasons, he's been the TE1 four times and the TE2 once. In that span, his receiving average is 95/1,228/8 - those are WR1-type numbers from a position that's historically been devoid of elite playmakers. Don't get cute in 2021 - Kelce is the top pick at this position.Hock finished as the TE5 last season behind a solid 67/723/6 receiving line. He could see those numbers soar in 2021 as the Lions' leading receiver in a Darren Waller-esque role. Detroit's receiving corps was gutted in the offseason, leaving a rookie and two veteran journeymen atop the depth chart alongside Hockenson. Volume alone should keep him in the top-6 conversation, despite Detroit's likely offensive struggles.

Having Kelce on your team is so powerful because it gives you a massive advantage at TE over your opponent every week. Kelce has been the TE2 or better each of the last five seasons - his unparalleled consistency at the chaotic TE position makes him worthy of a late-first/early-second round pick. Look to pair him with a workhorse RB for a very strong opening to your draft.

We're getting close to the age where tight ends typically fall off with Kelce (32 in October) but he's shown no signs of slowing down, as he just broke the all-time record for yards in a season by a tight end. The Chiefs didn't really add anyone to the offense who should jeapordize his targets, and in fact, losing Sammy Watkins may only add to his appeal. Not only did he finish as the No. 1 tight end and give you a massive weekly advantage at an unpredictable position, but he would've finished as the No. 4 wide receiver. So, if drafting a tight end early scares you, just think of him like a wide receiver who you can play in your tight end slot. He's worth a late first-round pick.We can talk about all the good things that Hockenson did last year, but it wouldn't matter. His world has been flipped upside down in 2021, as he has a new coaching staff, and more importantly, a new quarterback. The team isn't going to be in scoring position nearly as much, but the good news for Hockenson is that he's now the clear-cut No. 1 target on the team after we watched Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones leave in free agency. Jared Goff has limitations as a quarterback, but his skill-set should actually align with Hockenson's role quite well. It may not be exciting to start Hockenson week-to-week for upside purposes, but he should deliver a rock-solid floor that allows you to start him every week.

If he was a WR, he would have finished No. 3 in FAN PPG , and he had twice as many FAN PPG as the No. 5 TE (17.3 to Hockenson's 8.7) - he's a Wins Above Replacement star

There isn't much to say about Travis Kelce that hasn't already been said. He's both the best TE in football and the best TE in fantasy football. Last year he led all TEs in targets, yards, and TDs. Plain and simple. Kelce is the number one fantasy tight end and can be drafted as early as the round 1-2 turn. After a quiet rookie year, T.J. Hockenson broke onto the scene in 2020 finishing with 67 receptions for 723 yards and six TDs. The Lions are low on WR talent and with Jared Goff now at QB, I expect Hockenson to immediately become the team's No.1 target. Don't reach for him, but he's a great value in the middle rounds.

T.J. Hockenson may be the best pass catcher on this roster. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he leads this team in targets, or finishes extremely close to the receiver who does. Given Goff's proclivity to target the position, we may be on the berth of the Hockenson breakout season.

The Draft Zone
Hockenson is truly primed to break into that upper echelon at the TE position this year. To start he has elite draft capital, had a 67 REC, 723 YDS, 6 TD season as 23-yr old, the Lions just lost their WR1 & WR2 and replaced them with journeymen WRs. He looks to be the top target in an offense that will be playing from behind all year long.

Kelce's production is honestly absurd at this point. 1,416 receiving yards last year, which represented Kelce's fifth straight thousand-yard season, were both NFL records for the tight end position. He also set career-bests in receptions (105), touchdowns (11), yards per reception (13.5) and plenty of other categories. The question isn't whether he should be the top tight end off the board, because of course he should. The question is how high do you draft him. With his outrageous combination of elite floor and ceiling production at an incredibly thin position, he will and should be in the first-round conversation.Despite rarely seeming like a must-start option, Hockenson wound up finishing as the fourth-best tight end in fantasy last year. He received 101 targets, fifth-most at the position, and scored six touchdowns on 67 receptions. He'll now be dealing with a new quarterback in Jared Goff, a new offensive coordinator in Anthony Lynn, a new head coach in Dan Campbell, and little competition for targets with the departures of Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. All signs out of Detroit point to Hockenson being the focal point of the offense this season in the passing game, which should mean big things for him as he enters his third year in the league.

Kelce is the gold standard at the tight end position with 260.3 fantasy points. The only other tight end with more than 200 fantasy points was Darren Waller. Kelce should continue to be the elite fantasy tight end playing in an explosive Chiefs offense.Hockenson had a breakout year with 141.8 fantasy points, but he may have a tough time duplicating that production playing with Jared Goff under center.

Not many players have dominated a position the way Kelce has dominated TE. In 5 of the last 6 years, he has finished as the TE1 overall (his only miss was the 2017 season where he finished second, 0.8 points behind Gronk. Entering his age 32 season, the idea that father time might be catching up to Kelce could be creeping into your mind, but I'm going to keep betting on him until it does.Going into the season, the Lions have one of the best offensive line units in the NFL, so new QB Jared Goff is going to have time to throw. But who will he throw it to? A WR corpse of Tyrell Williams, Breshad Perriman and Amon-Ra St. Brown doesn't exactly screen production. Enter T.J. Hockenson. Hockenson quietly emerged for the Lions in 2020. With Golladay out most of the season, Hockenson either nearly doubled or more than doubled his output from his rookie season in nearly every offensive category including targets (59->101), receptions (32->67), receiving yards (367->723) and TDs (2->6). With not much competition for targets, a Waller-type season could be in the cards for Hockenson.
