FantasyPros
Sure, Lockett finished as the No. 9 fantasy wide receiver last year, but ask anyone who rostered him if he was a WR1. Heck, as them if he was a reliable WR2. The answer would be no, as he finished with WR2 or better numbers just 37.5 percent of the time which was behind players like Diontae Johnson, Curtis Samuel, John Brown, and Jamison Crowder. How's that possible? Because 48.7 percent of his production last year came from just three games. He's going to have massive games, but relying on him as anything more than a volatile WR3 is going to lead to disappointment.Claypool may have finished as the WR19 on the season, but his year was littered with lackluster performances. He posted WR3 or better type numbers in just 50 percent of the games last year, which was tied with Jamison Crowder and DeVante Parker for 34th among wide receivers. His four-touchdown game in Week 5 really catapulted his numbers at season's end, as he failed to top 59 yards in 11-of-16 games, making him a touchdown-or-bust option most weeks. With Ben Roethlisberger's arm strength seemingly deteriorating by the day, it's tough to see Claypool having a true breakout season in 2021, as he relies on those high value targets more than JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson do. Claypool is an upside pick for sure, but not one I'd bet heavily on.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
The only knock in Lockett is he's undersized at 5'10". That limits his TD ceiling, especially with DK Metcalf opposite of him. Still Lockett's is usually good for about 1,000 yards and 8 TDs.Claypool is a good young player in a terrible situation. If he was on another team I'd be more bullish on his 2021 outlook. Instead I'm fading all Steelers. If they beat me they beat me, but the line and Big Ben scare me. Not much upside imo. For that reason I'm passing on him.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
As college offenses progress and the coaching gets better, we're starting to see more and more receivers come into the NFL and make an impact immediately. No receiver better exemplifies this from last season than Chase Claypool, who was not high on consensus draft boards, but came in and absolutely shattered expectations. He ran hot and cold throughout the season due to the offense's struggles, but the talent is absolutely there. While Diontae Johnson should be Big Ben's favorite target yet again this season, Claypool's big play ability is going to lead to some fantastic fantasy performances. When it's all said and done, it would not shock me to see Claypool end the season with the highest fantasy finish among the Steelers WRs. My Very Early Projection: 63-948-8 receiving.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
JuJu's return sucks some upside, but not all. Still, expect this to resemble an unpredictable 2020 tgt share
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Lockett scored 105 of his 215.4 fantasy points in three games or 48 percent of his fantasy production. He had too many low-scoring games for me to rank him as anything more than a WR3 that could be propped up by a few monster games.Claypool had a fantastic rookie year and he will look to build on the 183.9 fantasy points he scored as a rookie.
