Derek Brown FantasyPros | DeAndre Hopkins missed the first six games of the season due to suspension and the final two weeks with a knee sprain, but when he was on the field, he proved he hadn't hit the age cliff yet. Hopkins was the WR9 in fantasy points per game last season, drawing a 29.4% target share (fourth-best) and 43.5% air-yard share (second-best). Hopkins can still draw volume with the best of them, but his efficiency did tick down a bit as he was 17th in yards per route run and 35th in open rate (tied with Christian Kirk, per ESPN analytics). Hopkins' 2023 prospects are muddied with his next destination up in the air, but expecting WR2 production out of him this season, regardless of the landing spot, isn't insane. | Tyler Lockett kept trucking along in his age-30 season last year, finishing with another stellar stat line. He was the WR16 in fantasy points per game, drawing a 22.8% target share (26th) and 30.5% air yard share (24th). Lockett showed little signs of slowing down, ranking 25th in PFF receiving grade and 24th in yards per route run (minimum 50 targets per PFF). He was also second in open rate behind only Diontae Johnson (per ESPN analytics). Lockett should have at least one more WR2 season left in the tank, but adding Jaxon Smith-Njigba could hurt his raw target volume. Lockett is a borderline WR2/3. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 5/26: Cut by the Cardinals -- he was honestly the definition of an Alpha w/ the Cardinals (Murray or McCOy), so I doubt this will be a net positive -- but DHop did signal some exciting QBs (Mahomes, Allen, Hurts, Lamar) as his preferred spot to wind down his career -- so it could be a net neutral. Of course, landing in Kansas City would send him to the Top-10 as Mahomes' clear Alpha... we'll see! 5/8: After all the trade speculation, Hopkins remains firmly at home in AZ. Due to suspension and a knee sprain, Hopkins only played full games from Week 7 - 15, but averaged over 19 FPPG & was the WR6 in this span, never dipping below 13 PPR FPs. No real threats added, definitely has a Top-10 outcome within his reach | 5/8: JSN plays a much different role, but in a run-heavy attack where targets are already limited, Lockett has to take a slight hit here. 3/7: Good to have his QB back |
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | BREAKING NEWS....The Cardinals have released star WR DeAndre Hopkins! This was expected. Arizona is in rebuilding mode. When they were unable to trade Hopkins due to his salary they cut him. That's a good thing for fantasy football fans. The Cardinals' offense figures to struggle without Kyler Murray. When he played last year, Hopkins was terrific. Potential landing spots include: Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore, or Philadelphia. DeAndre wants to play for a contender with a good QB. Hopkins' current ADP is WR 20. That seems like a bargain considering some of the potential landing spots are with explosive offenses. Keep an eye on this situation. I guess you could say that the Cardinals thought it was time for Hopkins to leave the nest haha! Look at the bright side, even if Hopkins doesn't do well this year, fantasy owners will still have my terrible bird puns to keep them entertained haha! Hey, I'm Mark Ringo- a man of the people haha!
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Finished as WR11 in half-PPR PPG in 9 games after serving 6-game suspension - absolute target magnet, with 10+ targets per game in 5 of past 6 seasons
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Hopkins was stellar last year in limited action, finishing with 64 receptions for 717 yards, and 3 TDs, despite missing 6 games to start the year with a suspension, another game with an injury, and Kyler Murray missing 2 games and all but one pass of a third game to close the fantasy season. Hopkins should be a low-end WR2 to high-end WR3 in 2023, hurt by the fact that Kyler Murray may miss the first 6 games of the season. | There is not much difference between Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, with Locket being the slightly better option with 80 receptions, 979 yards, and 8 TDs in 15 fantasy games. Lockett is a solid WR2 in 2023, as long as the Seahawks can bring Geno Smith back after a breakout season. |
