Ellis Johnson True North Fantasy Football | Perennially undervalued, Lockett is looking to finish as a top-15 WR for the sixth consecutive year. Outside of age, the only thing slowing Lockett down is the team drafting Jaxson Smith-Njigba in the first round. Targets might cone at a premium on this offense, meaning Lockett will need to maintain his ability to make big plays.
Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | London might be getting a lot of press at the Falcons #1 WR, but I think it's Kyle Pitts who will be the top receiving option. London had most of his larger volume reception games after Pitts was shelved for the season. While Pitts was a disappointment last year, he still broke the rookie record for TEs two years ago. He had over 1,000 yards! He's faster than London. He's a bigger matchup problem for defenses in my opinion because of his speed. London is big, but not as fast. He has a hard time separating from defenders. That means he needs a bigger volume (more receptions) to score fantasy points since he won't score long TDs like Pitts can. It's not only Pitts returning, the Falcons also added TE Jonnu Smith and RB Bijan Robinson. Robinson is an excellent receiver out of the backfield. All this on a team that didn't pass it much in 2022. Head coach Arthur Smith says Atlanta will pass it more. Well, even if they do, no one will mistake Atlanta for the Kansas City Chiefs. There's only one football, and not everyone will get a big piece of peach cobbler. London's current ADP at WR 23 seems expensive considering the competition for receptions and the run-oriented Falcons offense. For that reason, Ringo has London bridges falling down his rankings. He's a good player, but I hate The Drake's fantasy outlook in 2023! Now, can someone please pass the cobbler? Haha!
Derek Brown FantasyPros | Drake London excelled in his rookie season, although fantasy gamers were not elated with his WR43 finish. If we look deeper than the raw counting stats, London's future is incredibly bright. If earning targets is a skill (it is), then London proved to be among the league's elite. He ranked 22nd in raw target volume last year (117) with the fifth-highest target share (29.4%) and second-highest target per route run rate (32.4%) among wide receivers. London also blazed in efficiency stats ranking 16th in open rate (per ESPN analytics), tenth in PFF receiving grade, and 14th in yards per route run (minimum 50 targets). London gave a glimpse into his 2023 upside down the stretch last season. In Weeks 13-18, he was the WR20 in fantasy, even though he failed to score a touchdown in this span. London is a target vacuuming WR2 with WR1 upside in 2023. | Tyler Lockett kept trucking along in his age-30 season last year, finishing with another stellar stat line. He was the WR16 in fantasy points per game, drawing a 22.8% target share (26th) and 30.5% air yard share (24th). Lockett showed little signs of slowing down, ranking 25th in PFF receiving grade and 24th in yards per route run (minimum 50 targets per PFF). He was also second in open rate behind only Diontae Johnson (per ESPN analytics). Lockett should have at least one more WR2 season left in the tank, but adding Jaxon Smith-Njigba could hurt his raw target volume. Lockett is a borderline WR2/3. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | Will Arthur Smith finally use him right ? And who will be his QB? One non-question: he's damnnnn good! | 5/8: JSN plays a much different role, but in a run-heavy attack where targets are already limited, Lockett has to take a slight hit here. 3/7: Good to have his QB back |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | London had a good rookie campaign considering his QB situation, finishing with 66 receptions for 746 yards and 4 TDs. He should be a WR3 with upside if Desmond Ridder can make the jump in his second season or if the Falcons add an upgrade in free agency. | There is not much difference between Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, with Locket being the slightly better option with 80 receptions, 979 yards, and 8 TDs in 15 fantasy games. Lockett is a solid WR2 in 2023, as long as the Seahawks can bring Geno Smith back after a breakout season. |
