Antonio Allen to start at cornerback against Raiders

by Tom Woods | Wed, Sep 3rd 7:59am EDT

Safety Antonio Allen has been told that he will start at cornerback for the New York Jets' regular season opener against the Oakland Raiders. Allen was moved from safety to cornerback in the preseason after injuries to the team's top three cornerbacks - Dee Milliner, Dimitri Patterson and Dexter McDougle. Allen has also been medically cleared to play after missing practice time with a concussion. (Gang Green Nation)

Fantasy Impact:

Antonio Allen is an intriguing player this year in IDP leagues. He started off the preseason competing for a role as a starting safety alongside veteran Dawan Landry and rookie Calvin Pryor but it now appears that he will play a major role in the secondary after being named one of the Week 1 starting cornerbacks. Allen has been good in coverage but he hasn't been so great at catching the ball for interceptions. Still, Antonio Allen could turn out to be a sleeper pick, especially if he slots into a starting safety role once Dee Milliner returns.
