Fantasy Impact
One year removed from his retirement from the NFL following a 15-year career in Dallas, Witten will re-join the Cowboys after a sub-par year as an announcer. The 36-year-old tight end, who will turn 37 in May, has signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys worth $3.5 million. Despite his age, Witten believes he can still play in the league. And given the Cowboys' evident need at tight end, it appears that they do as well. While Witten may not be much in terms of yards after the catch, he could catch the ball, hauling in 63-of-87 targets in 2017. Witten's return could also play a role in his transition into coaching in the league, especially if Dallas targets a tight end in the 2019 NFL Draft. What's more, Witten is one of the most beloved Cowboys of all time on and off the field and could serve as a leader on a team with a plethora of young talent. While this may be a low-impact fantasy football transaction, it could a quality move for the Cowboys as a whole.
