Josh Freeman gets chance with Dolphins

by Reginald James | Thu, Apr 2nd 9:07pm EDT

The Dolphins have signed Josh Freeman to a one-year contract. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14th overall in 2009. Freeman's best season was in 2010 when he threw for 3,451 yards and 25 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He hit team highs throwing for 4,065 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2012. Things turned sour somehow in 2013 with head coach Greg Schiano and he was benched and released that year. He did not play for an NFL team last year. (Dolphins.com)

Fantasy Impact:

Freeman joins McLeod Bethel Thompson, Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill as the Miami QBs. For now, Freeman is likely competing for the 3rd roster spot behind Moore. At the very least Freeman may push Moore to make a stronger claim as Tannehill's backup. The Dolphins are taking a low-risk move, giving Freeman a chance to show them he still can play in the league. The expanded rosters during the off-season and OTAs are tailor-made for situations just like this.
