Jones was selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 15th overall. He will compete with veteran QB Cam Newton for the Patriots starting quarterback job. The rookie will head into training camp behind Newton on the depth chart but could end up starting later in the season. According to Mike Giradi of the NFL Network, “a legit competition is on tap” between Jones and Newton this summer. Jones is the Patriots' future QB and currently 37th among all signal-callers in the latest expert consensus draft rankings in 2021.
