Jacob Wayne Lineups | Allen Lazard has asserted himself as the clear-cut WR2 on this roster and he'll be sharing the field with Davante Adams in two-wide sets. The Vikings are integrating in three new starting cornerbacks after a challenging year defending the pass and I'm expecting Lazard to find himself with some easy receptions. The Packers' passing volume is going to be lower this week in a divisional matchup that should be lower-scoring, but Lazard is a talented player and should be viewed as a solid WR3/WR4 this week. | |
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | He was a lot like Daniel Jones last year, where he'd explode one week and then disappear the next. A lot of it came down to not seeing consistent targets, as there were five games where he saw fewer than five targets. With so many viable pass catchers in the offense, that's going to happen. The Steelers are not a team to rely on big plays against. They allowed just six plays of 40-plus yards in 2019, and half of those came in the first couple weeks before they traded for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. As a team, they allowed just 7.58 yards per target to wide receivers, which ranked as the seventh fewest in the league. Slayton will see a lot of Joe Haden and Steven Nelson, two cornerbacks who were lights out in coverage last year. They combined to allow just a 71.5 QB Rating in their coverage, including just 6.46 yards per target. As mentioned in the Shepard/Tate notes, the Steelers biggest weakness is in the slot, an area that Slayton doesn't go very often. He has one-play upside that Shepard and Tate don't, but I wouldn't bank on it against this defense. He's just a boom-or-bust WR5. | It seems all but certain that it's Davante Adams and Lazard on the field in 2WR sets for the Packers, which obviously offers some value, especially when facing a team like the Vikings who allowed 25 receivers to post at least 11.2 PPR points last year, which was the average amount of points required to finish as a WR3 in 2019. Lazard was on the field in a full-time role when they played in Week 16 last year where he caught 5-of-9 targets for 45 yards. The Vikings are going to have an all-new cornerback unit in 2020, which will feature Mike Hughes (who's likely to see Adams the most), Holton Hill, along with rookies Jeff Gladney and Cameron Dantzler. With no preseason action, they'll be walking into the fire in Week 1. It's hard enough for rookie cornerbacks to start day one, let alone make a difference. Knowing the Packers are not allowing their media staff to disclose who's been running with the first-team offense, we can't start Lazard with 100 percent confidence, but he does have a plus matchup, making him an upside WR4/5 this week. |
Kyle Yates FantasyPros | When all of the New York Giants WRs are healthy, it's going to be very difficult to determine which ones to start. Slayton should draw coverage from Joe Haden this game, which doesn't bode well for his fantasy outlook. Slayton's a boom/bust WR4. | The ball has to go somewhere else in Green Bay, right? Lazard's the clear No. 2 option in this WR room and he's a solid bet to reel in a touchdown from Aaron Rodgers. While I'd prefer to wait and see what Lazard's involvement in the offense actually looks like before I roll him into my starting lineup, he's a fine WR4/FLEX play this week. |
