Jacob Wayne Lineups | It's tough to figure out where to place DeAndre Hopkins this week. He's one of the best talents at receiver in the NFL and is going to be catching passes from a young phenom in Kyler Murray, but the 49ers' defense is terrifying. Their front seven should dominate the Cardinals' offensive line. However, the Niners play mostly zone defense and there's a solid chance the Cardinals are trailing for most of this game, so Hopkins should still see plenty of targets. His upside is capped a bit this week, but he's still a strong WR1 play. | Calvin Ridley and the Falcons take on the Seahawks' defense in Week 1, a defense that should be much-improved after the additions of Jamal Adams and Quinton Dunbar. However, the Falcons led the NFL in passing attempts per game last year as they played catch-up in virtually every game. That could very easily be the case again in this game, making Calvin Ridley a solid WR2 this week with WR1 upside. |
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | I'm definitely worried about wide receviers going to new teams this year with no preseason games, though Hopkins is one I'm a bit less worried about. Why? Have you seen the quarterbacks he's worked with throughout his career? Outside of Deshaun Watson, here's the list: A.J. McCarron, Tom Savage, T.J. Yates, Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer, Brandon Weeden, Ryan Mallett, Case Keenum, Matt Schaub, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Despite all of that, he's been a top-five receiver for as long as I can remember. The 49ers don't shadow, so Hopkins will be most likely see Emmanuel Moseley in coverage most of the time. He's a former undrafted free agent who was forced to step into the starting lineup after Ahkello Witherspoon failed to live up to expectations. The Cardinals targeted him seven times in their matchups last year, completing five passes for 132 yards and a touchdown. There's likely going to be some growing pains with Hopkins and Kyler Murray, and knowing the 49ers defense is no pushover, it's hard to trust Hopkins as anything more than a WR2 in his Cardinals debut. | With the way Ridley lines up in the formation, he's typically on the right side about 50-60 percent of the time, which tells us he'll line up with Shaquill Griffin the most. Griffin has been their best cornerback, though there's been some inconsistency to his game. If there's one thing he consistently shuts down, it's allowing receivers to get behind him. It's likely because they play a zone-heavy scheme in Seattle, which makes it easier to keep the receiver in front of you, but it will also allow teams to complete a high percentage of their passes. Over the last two years, Griffin has allowed a 62.7 percent catch rate in his coverage. It's not the greatest matchup for Ridley, but it's also not one where he'll struggle too much if the volume is there. He was on a 131-target pace once Mohamed Sanu left the team last year, so it's possible he gets into the 7-10 target range. Let's temper blowup expectations, but he should deliver stable WR2 numbers. |
Kyle Yates FantasyPros | Hopkins got PAID and he should instantly show up in this matchup. While this 49ers DST could give Kyler Murray and Kenyan Drake fits with their pressure up front, the corners aren't going to be able to contain Nuk and the other receiving weapons that Arizona has to offer. Hopkins is a solid option this week and should get off to a hot start in his new home. | Ridley has been receiving hype all offseason and it should pay off almost immediately here in this matchup. Julio Jones and Ridley should have a field day against the Seattle DBs and there's a very real chance that we see both finish within the top-5 at the WR position this week. Ridley's an absolute must start option this week. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The 49ers were 12th against fantasy wide receivers, but Hopkins is too talented to leave off the elite WR1 line, even in a tough matchup against the 49ers. | Ridley should be set to take another step forward this year, he is a WR2 in a game that could turn into a shootout. |
