Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | We've been hearing the Chark hype train started since Jay Gruden became the coordinator and said he'd be moving Chark around the formation a lot more. Fast forward to camp and everyone (I mean everyone) has been saying Chark's dominating camp. Now, to be fair, the Jaguars defense isn't a hard one to dice up, but neither is the Colts. In fact, Chark had his second-biggest game of the year against them, totaling eight receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns in their Week 11 meeting. On top of that, the Colts lost their top cornerback Pierre Desir after voiding his contract. They'll be hoping sophomore cornerback Rock Ya-Sin takes a step forward after allowing nearly 10.0 yards per target in 2019. They signed Xavier Rhodes, who's likely to start, but he was among the worst cornerbacks in football last year with the Vikings, allowing a 127.8 QB Rating in his coverage. He's trended down over the last two years, so there's little reason to think he'll be able to keep up with the young Chark. Start Chark as a borderline WR1 this week, who should see eight-plus targets against the team that allowed the third-most fantasy points per target to wide receivers last year.
Jacob Wayne Lineups | The Jaguars are going to be playing from behind in many games this season as their defense has lost several pieces and there is a lack of talent all over the roster. It should allow D.J. Chark to produce several WR1 weeks as he feasts in garbage time. Chark showed an awesome connection with Gardner Minshew last season and the Colts' secondary should be about league average. Chark should be treated as a top-ten guy this week.
Isaiah Sirois FantasyPros | Remember when Allen Robinson finished as WR1 on the Jaguars? That's the kind of season I'm expecting out of Chark, and it will all get underway this weekend. The Jags have shipped off their best defensive talent, so it's safe to expect that the Colts will get out to a lead, forcing Jacksonville to play catch-up. When that happens, Minshew should look Chark's way on enough long passes for him to post high-end WR2 numbers. It helps that the Colts are lacking at cornerback; they replaced Pierre Desir with a struggling Xavier Rhodes in the offseason.
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The Colts were 25th against fantasy wide receivers last year and Chark had 12 receptions for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2 games against the Colts last year. He is a solid WR3 in the opener. |
