Isaiah Sirois FantasyPros | Tannehill is an okay option at QB2 in Week 1. After an electric 2019, Tannehill he'll try to keep things up against Denver. The Broncos have faced a myriad of recent injuries, and neither of their two best pass rushers (Von Miller and Bradley Chubb) are healthy. Denver also lost Chris Harris in the offseason and replaced him with A.J. Bouye, who had a down year in 2019. While sportsbooks expect this to be a low-scoring game (the point total is set at 41), I could see the Titans putting up enough points to hit the over. Tannehill won't set the world on fire, and he certainly isn't a QB1, but he's a fine play in 2QB or superflex formats.
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | It'll be weird seeing Brady with the Bucs uniform on in a real game, but this is what 2020 has brought us. It's not an easy one, though. The Saints defense is one of the best in the league, and they've only gotten better this offseason. They've added safety Malcolm Jenkins, as well as third-round linebacker Zack Baun to their potent defense that allowed just a 61.5 percent completion-rate and 6.92 yards per pass attempt in 2019. Don't forget about the addition at the end of last season either, as Janoris Jenkins was added to the cornerback unit. They did allow 26 passing touchdowns, though a lot of that comes from volume, as they faced 602 pass attempts last year. It is worth noting that the Saints defense allowed 23.2 points per game while at home compared to just 19.8 points per game on the road. Playing in the dome does typically help quarterbacks, and the Saints do score more there, leading to some garbage time stats for opponents. The 49.5-point over/under doesn't suggest this will be a crazy high-scoring contest, though. As a divisional game, it'll probably be tight. Jameis Winston completed 45-of-78 passes for 517 yards and four touchdowns during the two meetings last year, so it's not a must-avoid matchup or anything with Bruce Arians' offensive scheme. Still, there's some downside risk to this being a tough matchup in Brady's first game as a Bucs player. I'd consider him a mid-to-high-end QB2 for this week. I don't really want to play him in tournaments and don't think he's safe enough for cash. | Was 2019 a fluke? Was the contract they gave him too much considering the small sample size? We'll find out this season, though Tannehill has a tough matchup on his hands to start the year. The Broncos defensive front is littered with talent, as Tannehill will have Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Jurrell Casey, and Shelby Harris coming after him. That's scary considering Tannehill was sacked every 10.8 dropbacks last year, which ranked as the third-most often in the league. He also lost his starting right tackle in Jack Conklin. He's going to be under pressure quite a bit in this game. If his line can buy him time, the Broncos cornerback unit is their weak spot. Sure, they acquired A.J. Bouye this offseason, but he's replaced a better Chris Harris Jr. But after Bouye, their top cornerback is likely Bryce Callahan, who didn't play at all last year and has been known as a slot cornerback. If the Broncos can't get pressure on Tannehill, he should carve them up, but in a game with a 41-point over/under, it's expected to be extremely low scoring. Consider him just a middling QB2 for this game. Update: Defensive end Von Miller has suffered a season-ending injury, which will surely make the Broncos defense a bit less threatening. It's still expected to be a low-volume game, so it doesn't change Tannehill's projection that much. |
Zachary Hanshew FantasyPros | Despite his perceived "fall off" last season, Brady actually finished as a QB1 in 2019 with one of the worst group of skill-position players in the league. Now, he has his old pal Gronk back in his sights along with the dynamic duo of Chris Godwin and Mike Evans and a strong run game. In a great matchup with NO in Week 1, Brady should be a quality play in his first game as a Buccaneer.
Jacob Wayne Lineups | Tom Brady will be opening up his tenure with the Buccaneers with a massive showdown against new division rival Saints. New Orleans allowed the 12th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks last year as they often found themselves playing prevent defense late in games. I think both of these teams could open up a little slower than we expect them to and I'm worried about Brady needing time to adjust to his new offense after no preseason and limited training camp. Brady is likely going to finish as a QB1 this year with all of the weapons at his disposal, but there are a handful of quarterbacks I like more than him this week. | Ryan Tannehill finished as the QB9 in per-game scoring last season as the Titans surged to the playoffs with him under center. There's plenty about his play that was unsustainable, though, including an otherworldly 7.7% touchdown rate that was higher than any non-Lamar Jackson QB. The Broncos' defense ranked top-ten in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks last season, making this a difficult matchup for Tannehill and one where I don't see much upside. |
Kyle Yates FantasyPros | It's going to be insanely strange to see Brady trot out onto the field in a different uniform, but he's absolutely set up to succeed here in Tampa. This game should be a high-scoring affair, which means that fantasy points are going to be going up everywhere. The Saints are a very tough matchup, which knocks Brady down just outside QB1 territory in my rankings, but he's still someone worth looking at in 1QB leagues.
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The Saints were 21st against fantasy quarterbacks last year, it seems strange to say that Brady needs to prove anything at this point in his career. Given how poorly he played at 42-years old, I need to see that he still has enough left in the tank before I am going to rank him as a QB1. |
