Connor Murphy traded to Oilers for second round pick

Connor Murphy is heading to the Edmonton Oilers for a second round pick according to multiple reports. Chicago will retain half of Murphy's $4.4 million salary. (Mark Spector on X)

Murphy, who will turn 33 this month, has played in 805 career NHL games over a 13-year span. He is a big, physical defenseman who provides more hits and blocked shots than he does on the offensive end. Murphy has never scored more than 19 points in a season, but has finished with at least 100 blocks and 100 hits in 10 of his first 12 seasons. Murphy will likely play on Edmonton's third defensive pairing and will help kill penalties.
