I had to think twice before writing this post. You see, we’re not about disparaging fantasy experts. We see our leaderboard as the top experts in the industry, so just being included means you’re doing something right. But a few things came up this past week that got me thinking; wouldn’t it be interesting to see which players the top and bottom experts disagree on the most?
For this week’s Expert Faceoff, I made a custom consensus cheat sheet that combines our top two pros, John Paulsen and Andy Behrens, and then compared the rankings to a consensus of our bottom two pros. We’ll keep them anonymous for now and just refer to them as the “Bottom 2” – it’s my way of feeling better about doing this analysis.
I mentioned that a few things came up this week that perked my curiosity. One of those things is that we just finished analyzing the official projections from the big three league management sites – Yahoo, ESPN and CBS. These are the projections that come from “computers” rather than human fantasy experts. I always wondered how accurate they were, so we went ahead and scored them using our methodology. Here’s our guest post at the NY Times 5th Down if you’re interested. The connection between that topic and this Expert Faceoff is that at least one (if not both) of our bottom experts is a computer generated projection as well. Score one for the humans, for a change!
A few interesting players came up when comparing the consensus cheat sheets from Paulsen and Behrens vs. our Bottom 2 Experts. I’m not sure if it will provide you with any good start/sit advice for this weekend, but it will be fun to check back on these dissenting opinions after the games are over. I’m guessing the top experts win this doubles match. But it’s a small sample size and, as we all painfully know, anything can happen on any given Sunday.
