Mark Canha (1B/OF-OAK)
Canha was placed on the disabled list just this past week with a left hip impingement. There’s speculation that he will be done for the season, which if true, would mean Khris Davis will see every start he can handle against left-handed pitchers. This should also open up plenty of playing time for Coco Crisp. Keep an eye in case the A’s bring up some players from the minor leagues.
Jed Lowrie (2B/3B-OAK)
Lowrie is off crutches, but he’s not resumed baseball activities since being injured. This definitely opens up more playing time for Chris Coghlan and Tyler Ladendorf. It’s a nice little platoon play as Coghlan is a lefty and Ladendorf is a righty. Keep an eye in case one of these guys really explodes and gets the everyday nod.
Ryan Braun (OF-MIL)
Braun has missed the past few games due to a right wrist injury. The X-rays revealed nothing serious in his wrist, so it might just be a couple more days before he’s ready to roll.
David Peralta (OF-ARI)
Peralta was placed on the disabled list due to some wrist soreness. He should be back in early June. Chris Hermann and Brandon Drury have benefitted from his absence, with Drury performing at a higher level than Hermann.
Michael Brantley (OF-CLE)
After making his return just a few weeks ago, Brantley has found himself back on the disabled list. He has right shoulder inflammation, but the MRI showed no structural damage. This should just be a little bit of rest for Brantley to recover. He should be available once he’s eligible to come off the disabled list.
Steven Matz (SP-NYM)
Matz was scratched from his last start due to left elbow soreness. You will need to wait to know more about the seriousness of the injury, but he reportedly received positive news Monday. It’s still a little concerning, especially considering Matz has already undergone Tommy John surgery.
Logan Forsythe (2B-TB)
Forsythe is going to be out for about a month with a hairline fracture to his shoulder blade, but that will give opportunities to guys like Steve Pearce and even Tim Beckham. Pearce has hit well in his limited opportunity this year, so he’s probably worth an addition. I’d wait to see if the Rays end up using Beckham at second, as his natural position is shortstop.
Luis Severino (SP-NYY)
Severino was placed on the disabled list with a right triceps strain, and it is unknown how much time he will miss. This is already a thinned Yankees’ starting rotation due to the C.C. Sabathia injury. Sabathia was just placed on the disabled list two days ago, but he’s expected to be back later this week after his minimum required stint on the shelf. Meanwhile, owners will have to wait and see what the Yankees have to say about Severino.
