Brandon Beachy tossed three shutout innings

Brandon Beachy threw three shutout innings Saturday night against the Chicago Cubs. He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out one.

Fantasy Impact

There was some hope, one year removed from his second Tommy John surgery, that Beachy could regain his 2011 form (169 K's in 141 innings) last year. Unfortunately, things did not go well and he was optioned to Triple-A. 2016 is a new year and Beachy may have to play a prominent role, considering the high number of injuries that the starting rotation has endured. He has shown the ability to strike out batters in the past.

Brandon Beachy signs with Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Brandon Beachy to a one-year $1.5 million contract with incentives worth $2.75 million.

Fantasy Impact

Beachy started two games last year for Dodgers, going 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA and 2.00 WHIP. He probably won't crack the starting rotation, but could provide depth and the occasional spot-start.

Atlanta not so welcoming in Brandon Beachy's return

Brandon Beachy could only go four innings in his return to Atlanta, the team that he pitched for prior to signing with the Dodgers. He allowed four earned runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out three.51-of-82 pitches were thrown for strikes.

Fantasy Impact

This kind of result was to be expected, as Beachy is recovering from two Tommy John surgeries. He also stated that he had to learn a new delivery to limit the stress on his elbow. It remains to be seen if Beachy can help the Dodgers and be relevant in fantasy, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Brandon Beachy shaky in first start in 23 months

Brandon Beachy lasted just four innings in his Dodgers debut Saturday against the Brewers, throwing 78 pitches (46 for strikes) and allowing three earned runs. Beachy allowed five hits and three walks and struck out two batters. His line is unimpressive, but he would have escaped with four scoreless frames if Andre Ethier had made a tough running catch near the left field wall with two outs and the bases loaded in the third.

Fantasy Impact

It could have been better, but it also could have been a lot worse, as Beachy took the mound for the first time in nearly two years after rehabbing from two Tommy John surgeries. His velocity sat in the low 90s (consistent with his career peak) and he made some nice pitches, but he also struggled with his control, which is to be expected. At this point, Beachy is probably too shaky to speculate on in all but the deepest of leagues, but he had elite stuff as a rookie in 2011 so there is some upside. Beachy could be a remarkable comeback story if he can ramp up to a full starters' workload and fill the Dodgers' desperate need for rotation depth the rest of the season.

Brandon Beachy could start Saturday

Manager Don Mattingly said that Brandon Beachy could be a candidate to start this Saturday.

Fantasy Impact

With the rash of injuries that the Dodgers starting rotation has endured, this is not surprising news. In Beachy's latest rehab outing, he was clocked at 93 mph. That is an excellent sign but he is coming off two Tommy John surgeries. In order to relieve the stress on his elbow, Beachy has also stated that he has had to learn how to pitch a different way. He's definitely worth a flyer but expectations should be tempered until we see how his control and velocity are in real games.
