Fujikawa pitched a perfect inning in last night's Rangers debut, but he was far from perfect this evening as he gave up two hits and three runs in just 2/3 of an inning of work.
Fantasy Impact
Not surprising that Fujikawa would be uneven in his return after starting the season on the DL. The only fantasy value he might have going forward is if Neftali Feliz continues his struggles in the closer spot.
Reliever Kyuji Fujikawa made his Rangers debut Thursday, tossing a perfect eighth inning in last night's 6-3 loss to the Royals.
Fantasy Impact
Fujikawa has been on the DL since the end of Spring Training because of tightness in his right groin muscle. He had a 3.86 ERA in 10 relief outings with Round Rock on medical rehabilitation assignment -- holding opponents to a .194 batting average, although allowing nine walks in 9 1/3 innings.
It appears that Kyuji Fujikawa will join fellow reliever Tanner Scheppers on the disabled list to start the season. Fujikawa complained of groin tightness after Tuesday's outing and will be examined by team orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington on Thursday
Fantasy Impact
With both Scheppers and Fujikawa most likely headed to the DL, the possible return of Shawn Tolleson for Opening Day becomes even more important for the suddenly depleted bullpen. Additionally, this might ensure a spot on the roster for Keone Kala who has easily been the most effective arm out of the pen this spring. Kala has appeared in nine games, tossing 9.1 innings, allowing just three hits and no runs, while walking two and striking out 11. Looking for a super sleeper? Kala might be your man.
It was another solid performance for Fujikawa today in the Rangers 3-2 loss to the San Diego Padres. Fujikawa picked up his third hold of the spring with a perfect inning of work.
Fantasy Impact
Fujikawa has been nails this spring. In six appearances, he has tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just two hits and one run, while walking one and striking out five. Fujikawa is a decent sleeper pick, particularly in leagues that count holds, as he could also pick up some saves during the year.
The Texas Rangers beefed up their bullpen with the signing of veteran reliever Kyuji Fujikawa to a one-year deal.
Fantasy Impact
Fujikawa will most likely be a set-up guy, but the right-hander could always fill in at closer if necessary, especially if Neftali Feliz falls victim to the injury bug again.
