Yankees pitcher Freddy Garcia (0-2) hurled two scoreless innings of relief during New York's 5-1 loss at Kansas City on Saturday night. It was Garcia's second appearance out of the bullpen after he was removed from the rotation following his woeful start against Detroit on April 28. Garcia finished with a walk and a strikeout against the Royals as he pitched the final two innings.

The New York Yankees have decided to demote starter Freddy Garcia to the bullpen with rookie David Phelps the favorite to assume the fifth starter role for the moment.
