Putz came on in the ninth inning and retired three of the four batters he faced in the non-save situation. He needed only 11 pitches to get through the frame and lowered he lowered his ERA to 8.18 after his outing.

He entered in the ninth inning with a one-run lead and needed just 13 pitches to retired the side in order. Putz, who struck out two, collected his sixth save of the season in the 5-4 win.

Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz blew his second save in three tries on Wednesday, giving up a double to Bryce Harper before an Ian Desmond walk-off home run gave the Nationals a 5-4 win. Putz gave up the double to Harper to lead off the inning before striking the next two out, however he was unable to escape the inning before Desmond drove a pitch over the left-field wall.
