Hawks much stronger with D Brian Campbell back

by Jake Perper | Thu, Jul 7th 10:07pm EDT

Entering his 18th season in the NHL, D Brian Campbell is now craftier and wiser at age 37. The Blackhawks flat out stole the veteran defenseman last week on a one-year, $2.5 million deal giving them a strong top two pairings with Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson all back.

Fantasy Impact:

Campbell returns to Chicago after five years away from the team playing with the Panthers. He's fresh off a 31-point season (six goals, 25 assists) and his +31 rating led all defensemen last year. In three seasons with the Hawks from 2008-11, he had 19 goals and 98 assists. He's an offensive defenseman who will help on the man advantage and overall. The Blackhawks are much stronger now on the back end.
