The 2015 Colts fell well short of expectations, as most experts predicted that they would reach the AFC Championship, with some predicting them to reach the Super Bowl. Instead, they finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs for only the second time since 2002.
The Colts’ failure was largely due to Andrew Luck being injured and missing nine games in 2015. The Colts will look to address their issues on the offensive and defensive lines in the 2016 draft.

2015 Draft Picks
- Round 1, Pick 29: Phillip Dorsett (WR – Miami)
- Round 3, Pick 1: D’Joun Smith (CB – Florida Atlantic)
- Round 3, Pick 29: Henry Anderson (DE Stanford)
- Round 4, Pick 10: Clayton Geathers (SS – Central Florida)
- Round 5, Pick 15: David Parry (NT – Stanford)
- Round 6, Pick 29: Josh Robinson (RB – Mississippi St.)
- Round 6, Pick 31: Amarlo Herrera (ILB – Georgia)
- Round 7, Pick 38: Denzell Good (OT – Mars Hill)
The Colts had a solid draft in 2015, despite not addressing their greatest need (offensive line) until the last round of the draft. Anderson, Geathers, Parry and Good all played significant time in 2015 and will look to improve this season. Also, Dorsett will likely have a much larger role in 2016 with the release of Andre Johnson.
2016 Draft Picks
This year the Colts currently have six draft picks:
- Round 1, Pick 18
- Round 2, Pick 48
- Round 3, Pick 82
- Round 4, Pick 116
- Round 5, Pick 155
- Round 7, Pick 239
Top Draft Needs
Offensive Line
The Colts seem to have figured out the left side of their offensive line, but the right side needs to be addressed quickly. What they do in the first round depends greatly on what the teams in front of them do.
If Jack Conklin, Taylor Decker or Cody Whitehair are available, the Colts will likely draft one of them. If not, the Colts will likely take a pass rusher or a cornerback and address the offensive line later in the draft.
Potential Fits:
- Cody Whitehair (Kansas State) – First Round
- Joshua Garnett (Stanford) – Day Two
- Joey Hunt (TCU) – Day Three
Defensive Line
If the Titans and Lions both take an offensive lineman in front of the Colts, they could elect to address the defensive line instead of reaching for the next best offensive lineman. A couple of names that stand out and who could be available in the middle of the first round are Shaq Lawson and Emmanuel Ogbah.
Potential Fits:
- Emmanuel Ogbah (Oklahoma State) – First Round
- Vernon Butler (Louisiana Tech) Day Two
- Willie Henry (Michigan) – Day Three
Cornerback
Although it is not likely that the Colts will take a cornerback with their first pick, it wouldn’t be the first time that Colts GM Ryan Grigson shocked everyone and did something unexpected. Nobody in their right mind thought that the Colts were going to draft wide receiver Phillip Dorsett with their first round pick in 2015, but they did.
Grigson is not afraid to pull the trigger on the best player available, even if it is not a team need. If for some reason Vernon Hargreaves were to fall to the Colts, don’t be surprised if the Colts pull the trigger.
Potential Fits:
- Vernon Hargreaves (Florida) – First Round
- Cyrus Jones (Alabama) – Day Two
- Terrell Chestnut (West Virginia) – Day Three
