FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Monday (9/26)

Jorge Soler is oozing with power and could park one in the seats tonight

Welcome to the Monday edition of the FanDuel value plays. We have ten games on tonight’s slate and there are no real weather concerns in any of tonight’s games. Be sure to check the team lineups as they are released to make sure these players are in fact in the lineup. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for the day.

Pitcher

Jaime Garcia (STL): $7,300 vs. CIN
Jaime Garcia has been far from great this season. However, he does pitch better at home and he has a great matchup tonight against the Reds. The Reds have struggled all season long against right-handed pitchers with an 80 wRC+ and a 22.9% K%. There are definitely safer options for your cash game lineup, but Garcia can be used in your GPP lineup.

Catcher

Miguel Montero (CHC): $2,500 at PIT
Miguel Montero has struggled for most of the year, but he has been much better recently hitting 0.306 with two home runs and three doubles in his last 36 at-bats. If he does draw the start tonight behind the plate, he will have a solid matchup against Chad Kuhl, who has struggled against left-handed hitters in his short time at the MLB level. If Montero is not in the lineup tonight, pivot to Yadier Molina at $2,900.

First Base

Adam Lind (SEA): $2,600 at HOU
Adam Lind has not been great this season, but he has done much better lately with a 0.384 wOBA in the month of September. Lind has a solid matchup against Collin McHugh, who has allowed a 0.345 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season.

Second Base

Dee Gordon (MIA): $2,700 vs. NYM
My condolences go out to the Marlins after learning that Jose Fernandez lost his life in a horrifying boating accident. I can’t imagine how difficult it will be for them to play in tonight’s game. If there was another viable value option at second base, I would definitely recommend that option over Dee Gordon since I have no clue how focused the Marlins will be during tonight’s game. There really is not another viable option at this time, so you can either use Gordon or pay up more at second base and I recommend the latter.

Third Base

Jose Reyes (NYM): $2,900 at BAL
In 48 at-bats against left-handed pitchers, Jose Reyes has been excellent hitting 0.375 with four home runs and six doubles. Tonight he has a solid matchup against Adam Conley, who has struggled with his command against right-handed hitters allowing a 4.33 BB/9.

Shortstop

Addison Russell (CHC): $2,200 at PIT
Addison Russell has cooled off some from his surge in August. However, he is still doing pretty well and he has does have decent pop for a shortstop as seen by his 0.183 ISO. At only $2,200, he does not have to do much to return value and at this salary he does have tremendous upside.

Outfielders

Seth Smith (SEA): $2,900 at HOU
Seth Smith is always in play when the Mariners are opposing a right-handed pitcher and the Mariners get a nice boost since they are playing in the hitter friendly, Minute Maid Park. Smith typically hits in the two-hole for the Mariners against right-handed pitchers and I already mentioned that we can pick on McHugh a little bit with the Mariners’ left-handed hitters. Just be aware that Smith will occasionally be lifted for a pinch-hitter late in the game when opposing teams bring in a left-handed relief pitcher.

Tyler Naquin (CLE): $2,700 at DET
Tyler Naquin does not usually hit in a favorable spot of the lineup for the Indians. However, it does help that the Indians will be the visiting team tonight. Naquin has been excellent against right-handed pitchers this season with a 0.379 wOBA and a 0.236 ISO.

Jorge Soler (CHC): $2,300 at PIT
Value in the outfield currently looks pretty grim. However, if you want to take a chance on someone in your GPP lineup, consider using Jorge Soler. Soler has great power with a 0.200 wOBA, and will likely be low owned in GPPs. Just be sure to check if he is in the lineup tonight since he is not an everyday starter for the Cubs.
