Geoff Lambert discusses players fade on DraftKings for Week 3 contests.

Week 2 was a week full of injuries, especially running back injuries, and that will open up a ton of value this week. Guys like Charles Sims, Cameron Artis-Payne, and Jerick McKinnon will be littered throughout DFS lineups in Week 3. With all that value, you should have no issues getting some studs in your lineups, but be wary, values can sometimes come back to bite you — there is normally a reason a guy is second on the depth chart, sometimes they just aren’t any good.

Players to Fade
Quarterback
Drew Brees (NO) vs ATL $7,900
Brees, at home, against a suspect defense, no-brainer, right? Wrong. This is why DFS is so much different than season-long fantasy. There is no way you’d be benching Brees in a season-long league, but I’m telling you not to use Brees this weekend. Why? Three reasons;
- Price
- Ownership
- Better, cheaper options
Everyone will be on Brees this weekend, everyone. I think there are equal — if not better — options for much cheaper than Brees’ steep $7,900 price tag. He may end up the highest scoring QB this weekend, but because of his price, the rest of your lineup will suffer.
A better, slightly cheaper option — and one that will probably be low-owned — will be playing in this very game, Matt Ryan. With that said, Philip Rivers is my top QB this week.
Running Back
Lamar Miller (HOU) @ NE $7,200
Miller has been getting a ridiculous workload over the first two games, and while he hasn’t been terribly efficient with his touches, volume is something us fantasy owners like to see. So why am I fading him? Easy.
Bill Belichick.
Belichick is a master of taking a team’s best player out of a game. In this case, Miller may not be Houston’s best player, that distinction goes to DeAndre Hopkins, but Miller may be their most important player. He brings balance to this offense so that the Texans don’t have to rely on Brock Osweiler‘s arm. I expect the Patriots to stack the box and dare Osweiler to beat them and that doesn’t bode well for Miller.
Wide Receiver
A.J. Green (CIN) vs DEN $8,100
I was down on the Colts offense last week because of this Denver defense and I was right. This week’s victim will be the Cincinnati Bengals. I want no part of them this week, and that includes all-world WR A.J. Green. Andy Dalton will be under heavy duress with the Denver front four in his face for much of this game, and this offense — like most — will struggle to get anything going in the passing game.
Tight End
Jordan Reed (WAS) @ NYG $6,500
Much like Brees, DraftKings has priced Reed out of my lineups. His price tag at $6,500 is a bit steep when you consider he has yet to score a TD this year and was barely targeted in the red zone in Week 2. Greg Olsen, on-the-other-hand, has had one good game and one monster game through two weeks and he is $700 less. My favorite play at TE is Delanie Walker in a good matchup with the Raiders who are third worst defending the TE position through two weeks.
Defense
Seattle Seahawks vs 49ers $4,100
A lot of people will be on the Seahawks at home against one of the worst offenses in the league, but I won’t be one of them. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not predicting the 49ers to put up 30 points against the Seahawks, but I can see this game being low-scoring with very few turnovers. Both teams will play ultra conservative and not want to turn the ball over. I can see this game being a 12-6 type game.
