FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Thursday (11/17)
Ryan Dzingel

Ryan Dzingel has already reached his point total from 2015-16

We get to enjoy a ten-game NHL slate tonight which means there will be plenty of under-the-radar contributors just as there is every time the NHL has a busy schedule. Value plays can make or break your lineup, so let’s take a look some of the best options for tonight’s NHL action.

Center

Radek Faksa (DAL): $3,700 vs. COL
Faksa doesn’t get much power play time for the Stars, but his spot as Jamie Benn’s center isn’t the worst fall back gig I’ve seen. Benn has been a little slow out of the gates this season, however, perhaps the change in his center can do him some good. Faksa has five points and 25 shots on goal this season but also gets a solid amount of ice with an average of 16 minutes per contest.

Adam Lowry (WPG): $3,100 vs. PHI
Prior to this season most thought of Lowry as a big body who could perhaps carve out a career on someone’s fourth line. However, this season he has proved that notion wrong as he has been a solid contributor for the Jets. Entering play tonight Lowry has four goals on 26 shots while playing almost 16 minutes per game. That ice time has also included power play minutes where he has registered a goal and two assists. More points could be on the way tonight against a Flyers team who is dead last in the league with 3.53 goals against per game.

Carl Soderberg (COL): $4,400 vs. DAL
Soderberg had a great first season with Colorado last year as he tallied 39 assists and 51 points while playing in all 82 games for his new club. This season he has just four points in 15 games, but he gets a favorable matchup tonight against a Stars team who ranks 27th with 3.35 goals against per game. He is Colorado’s second line center and their second power play unit’s center as well which should provide plenty of opportunities tonight.

Wing

Ryan Dzingel (OTT): $3,500 vs. NSH
After scoring nine points in 30 games last year for the Senators, Dzingel has reached the nine-point mark in just 16 games this time around. He has moved up to the Sens’ top line next to Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan as a result while also seeing penalty kill and second unit power play minutes as well. He has 28 shots and 10 blocks in those 16 games to boot.

Marko Dano (WPG): $3,800 vs. PHI
Dano has bounced from the Blue Jackets to the Blackhawks and now to the Jets all before the age of 22. However, he may have found himself a good situation in Winnipeg. After a call up from the AHL, Dano has three goals and five points in just eight games for the big club. He has now moved up to the team’s top line next to breakout star Mark Scheifele and super-rookie Patrik Laine. That promotion could pay big dividends against the league’s worst defensive team in the Flyers tonight.

Vladislav Namestnikov (TB): $3,800 vs. BUF
Playing with Steven Stamkos helped Namestnikov’s production early, however without his star center for the next little while he could take on a larger role up front for the Lightning. The young Russian has eight points in 17 games this season, but recorded two in his last game in Detroit. He and Nikita Kucherov should remain on the Lightning’s top line together, and given the latter is leading the NHL in scoring, this bodes well for Namestnikov.

Defense

Nikita Nesterov (TB): $3,300 vs. BUF
Nesterov recorded his first two points of the season on Tuesday in Detroit, and while he isn’t an offensive juggernaut, he does have offensive upside. He will be the lone defenseman on the Lightning second power play unit and should see some extra offensive touches moving forward continuing tonight in Buffalo.

Anthony DeAngelo (ARI): $3,400 vs. VAN
DeAngelo was a significant point producer at the junior level, and he has had an impressive start to his pro career as well. He has a goal and an assist in just four games this season while recording seven shots and three blocked shots as well. He will likely continue to skate on the team’s second defense pairing while also seeing time on the Coyotes’ second power play unit. He will be a player to keep an eye on moving forward.

Dan Hamhuis (DAL): $3,700 vs. COL
Hamhuis may not put up as many points as he did earlier in his career, but he still logs plenty of ice time on the back end for Dallas. He skates on the team’s second power play unit as well which bodes well for his production. He has five points in 16 games but also contributes with 21 shots and 24 blocks as well. Not the sexiest pick out there, but could provide value against an Avalanche team that ranks 21st in goals against per game.

Goalie

Louis Domingue (ARI): $7,700 vs. VAN
Domingue will now see less time in the Coyotes’ crease with the return of Mike Smith, but he has played well as of late. He hasn’t allowed more than three goals since October 27th and has allowed exactly two goals in four of his last six starts. The Coyotes have played better defense as the season has worn on and Domingue could certainly get a win or more against the league’s lowest scoring team in the Vancouver Canucks.

John Gibson (ANA): $8,500 vs. NJ
Gibson’s price teeters on the line of holding value, however, given there are eight goalies who are more expensive than him I will include him as a value play. He takes on a Devils team tonight who score just 2.40 goals per game while the Ducks rank 10th in goals against per game. The Ducks are expecting more than a .909 save percentage out of Gibson and tonight could be a good start towards inching that number higher.
