Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 9

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 9
Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick is an intriguing Week 9 streaming option against the Saints

With more and more fantasy owners opting to wait on the quarterback and tight end positions in drafts, streaming each position has become a viable option. This is made easier by the fact that there are usually solid options on the waiver wire. Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for quarterbacks and tight ends who are owned in fewer than 50% of leagues and could be worth starting for your fantasy team.

All ownership percentages come from Yahoo fantasy leagues and all references to fantasy points allowed per game come from our fantasy points allowed (PA) reports here on Fantasy Pros. All references to DVOA (Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average) come from rankings on www.footballoutsiders.com. A detailed explanation of DVOA can be found here.

Quarterback

Sam Bradford (MIN): 16% owned vs. Detroit Lions
Bradford gets one of the top quarterback matchups in the league in Week 9 as he will do battle with the Lions’ shoddy pass defense. Detroit, through Week 7, has allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks at 23.8. The Vikings have a fantastic defense, so the only concern here is that they get up big enough to run out the clock, but the Lions have shown that they have a proficient enough offense to keep the game close.

Colin Kaepernick (SF): 7% owned vs. New Orleans Saints
Kaepernick hasn’t been a great real-life quarterback, mostly due to his inaccurate passing, but he’s been a solid fantasy quarterback as his rushing skills have kept his value afloat. Kaepernick has picked up 150 yards on the ground in his two starts, providing just over a touchdown’s worth of fantasy production on the ground for his fantasy owners. The matchup with the Saints is quite favorable for Kaepernick as New Orleans’ weak secondary is allowing the fifth-most fantasy points per game to opposing signal callers. The explosive Saints offense should have no trouble moving the ball against the 49ers in Week 9, which will surely force Kaepernick to throw early and often.

Tight End

Cameron Brate (TB): 41% owned vs. Atlanta Falcons
Brate is fresh off a Week 8 performance which saw him score his third receiving touchdown of the season. He should remain a solid secondary option in a Tampa Bay offense that should have to throw often to keep up with the explosive Falcons. With Jacquizz Rodgers likely to join Doug Martin and Charles Sims on the sidelines, the Bucs could revert to a more pass-heavy offensive attack this weekend. Atlanta has one of the worst defenses in the league against tight ends, allowing 11.6 fantasy points per game, fourth-highest in the league.

Virgil Green (DEN): 10% owned @ Oakland Raiders
Green had a solid Week 8 in which he pulled in 4-of-6 targets for 55 yards against the Chargers. While he is still looking for his first touchdown on the season, he has topped three or more catches in all but one of his games played this season. That puts him on the radar as a deep sleeper in PPR leagues. He does pull a plus matchup in Week 9 against a Raiders defense that has struggled against tight ends for over two years now.
