FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Wednesday (6/7)

Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. All 30 teams are playing today, but three of those games have an early start and will not be included on the main slate tonight. As always, be sure to check the weather and the team lineups as they are released to make sure these players are in fact in the lineup. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for the day.

Pitcher

Buck Farmer (DET): $5,500  vs. LAA
The Tigers have recalled Buck Farmer from Triple-A to make the start against the Angels tonight. Farmer has been decent at Triple-A this season and looked really good in his lone start at the MLB level against the White Sox a couple of weeks ago. The Angels do not strike out as much as the White Sox, but they still aren’t that great against right-handed pitchers with only a 91 wRC+. That number should continue to drop while Mike Trout is on the DL.

Catcher

Miguel Montero (CHC): $2,100 vs. CHC
I’m not quite sure if Miguel Montero will get the start tonight, but if he does he would make for an excellent value option tonight. Montero has been putting some good swings on the ball this season with a 40.0% hard contact rate in 68 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers.

First Base

Matt Adams (ATL): $2,700 vs. PHI
FanDuel has been pretty slow with increasing Matt Adams’ salary considering he has a 0.360 wOBA and a 0.235 ISO in 106 plate appearances against right-handed pitchers. Tonight he has a decent matchup against Jerad Eickhoff, who has struggled against left-handed hitters this season.

Second Base

Scooter Gennett (CIN): $2,200 vs. STL
It’s going to seem like I’m chasing points after Scooter Gennett’s huge, four home run game last night. However, I don’t think for a second he’s going to duplicate that performance. At this salary, he really does not even have to do a quarter of what he did last night and it would be a successful night our lineups. Scooter has been decent against right-handed pitchers over the course of his career with a 0.339 wOBA.

Third Base

Paul DeJong (STL): $2,300 at CIN
If you caught my Monday value article, I wrote about Paul DeJong on that day as well. Despite most top prospect lists having DeJong outside of the Cardinals’ top ten, the Cardinals really like this kid. Before being called up a couple of weeks ago, DeJong had a 0.373 wOBA and 11 homers at Triple-A. Tonight he has an outstanding matchup against Bronson Arroyo, who is honestly probably one of the worst starting pitchers at the MLB level right now. Through 11 starts, Arroyo owns a 2.97 HR/9. The Cardinals’ bats have been pretty cold lately, but tonight I believe they come alive in Cincinnati.

Shortstop

Chris Owings (ARI): $2,700 vs. SD
The Diamondbacks returned home last night and they rewarded their fans with free tacos (a promotion they have whenever the Diamondbacks score five or more runs). Chris Owings contributed to that with a three-run home run and he now has a 0.400 wOBA and a 0.212 at the hitter-friendly Chase Field. Luis Perdomo has been decent this season, but not great enough to scare me off of using one or two Diamondback hitters.

Outfielders

Chris Young (BOS): $2,200 at NYY
Young hasn’t been great against left-handed pitchers this season, but over his career, he has been much better against lefties with a 0.364 wOBA and a 0.210 ISO. C.C. Sabathia has pitched well this season, but his 38.7% hard contact percentage allowed against right-handed hitters suggests he may be due for some regression.

Tommy Pham (STL): $3,000 at CIN
Another Cardinals’ hitter who we can use tonight against Arroyo is Tommy Pham. Pham has been excellent against right-handed pitchers this season with a 0.361 wOBA and a 0.212 ISO.

Avisail Garcia (CHW): $2,700 at TB
The White Sox have not been a good hitting team by any means this season. However, Avisail Garcia has been one of the few bright spots for them. Garcia currently has a 0.358 wOBA and a 0.225 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season.
