4 Fantasy Football Punishments for Finishing in Last Place

4 Fantasy Football Punishments for Finishing in Last Place

Punishments for finishing in last place have become commonplace in many fantasy football leagues, not only to give an incentive to those out of it to continue participating late in the season, but also as a way of simply humiliating your friends.

From trophies to tattoos, fantasy football punishments range from simplistic to extreme with some being incredibly creative as well. The embarrassing tattoo punishment has become a bit glorified thanks to Matthew Berry’s ESPN feature on one league that enacted that punishment a couple seasons back, but that’s just a bit too permanent in my opinion. My personal favorite punishment that I saw last season was a Game of Thrones-themed one in which the loser walked down Michigan Ave. in Chicago (AKA the Magnificent Mile) in their underwear while the rest of the league dressed as nuns and followed him chanting “SHAME.”

If your league is filled with Game of Thrones fans, then that’s a great idea right there. If not, then here are five other fantasy football punishment ideas for your league:

1. The Clown Bowl
This is our league’s punishment and one of the more creative that I’ve heard of. The premise is simple. The two teams that finish in the bottom two match-up in championship week in what has been dubbed, “The Clown Bowl.” The loser dresses as a clown, and not just, “Oh I’ll go to Party City and pick up a clown costume with a big red nose.” Like, you’re getting your face painted and you’re hitting the Chicago nightlife dressed as a clown. We find one of the trendier spots in Chicago to go to and debauchery ensues. It’s easily one of the most fun nights of the entire year. Unfortunately, our two reigning Clown Bowl champions have failed to partake in the festivities this year… like you have time to get married this year, but you don’t have time to be the clown for a night? Priorities, people.

(P.S. These two last-place finishers also spent $30 of their $100 FAAB budget last season on Coby Fleener so mark October 11 on your calendar as “National Coby Fleener Day.” Our league can’t wait to celebrate that one).

2. Comedy Show at Open Mic
I heard about this idea and immediately knew it would be going in this column. Assuming you don’t have a stand-up comic in your league, there’s a 99.2 percent chance that this will be a complete disaster. Find a local comedy club hosting an open mic and force your last-place finisher to perform stand-up. It’s a perfectly feasible punishment and will likely end in complete embarrassment. Bonus points if you make them do it dressed as a clown.

3. ESPN “Body Issue” Photo Shoot
This one’s pretty standard and has definitely been thrown around before, but I think it’s a great one. The athletes look pretty decent in the annual ESPN “Body Issue,” but there’s a good chance that your last place finisher won’t.

4. The CBA on FB Live
The loser must read the NFL’s entire collective bargaining agreement on Facebook Live. The most recent version is 301 pages.
