DraftKings Outlaw Tour Preview: GCU Championship

DraftKings Outlaw Tour Preview: GCU Championship

Nicolo Galletti captured his first Outlaw Tour win last week at the Legacy Shootout. Galletti shot rounds of 64, 66, to finish at 12-under par and edge out Yannik Paul by two strokes. In just four starts this season, Galletti already has three top-three finishes. He will be a difficult fade this week on DraftKings as he looks to carry the recent momentum into the GCU Championship.

The Outlaw Tour will tee it up again in Phoenix, Arizona, for the GCU Championship. This will be a three-day tournament beginning on Tuesday, April 28th. Once again, DraftKings is only offering Showdown tournaments for each day of the event. However, DraftKings has significantly upped the prize pools this week. The big GPP tournament is a $10 buy-in that has $150,000 worth of prize money — including a juicy $50,000 payout to the winner.

The field this week is very strong compared to last week’s Legacy Shootout. Scottish native Calum Hill is the highest-priced golfer this week at $10,800, followed by Dylan Wu ($10,400), Mark Anguiano ($10,200), and PGA Tour player JJ Spaun ($10,000). Due to the strength of the field, there is plenty of value down the board, and it will offer plenty of flexibility for your lineups.

Course Preview

The GCU Championship will be played at the newly redesigned Grand Canyon University Golf Course. This will be perhaps the longest golf course the Outlaw Tour will see, as it measures at 7,239 yards long and plays as a par 71. Fairways are very flat and wide, for the most part, allowing the golfers to attack many of the holes off the tee. The course features large Bermuda greens with plenty of deep bunkers and water hazards in play.

Key Stats

  • First Round Scoring Average (minimum of five rounds)
  • Holes per birdie
  • Par Breakers
  • Top-10 finishes (minimum of four events)

Recommended Plays

Calum Hill ($10,600)
The highest-priced golfer in the field is also the highest-ranked golfer in the field — and by a longshot. Hill is ranked 136th in the Official World Golf Ranking. The next closest golfer to him in this event is JJ Spaun (ranked 326th in the OWGR). The European Tour rookie won the Verrado Founders Championship on the Outlaw Tour in late March of this year. Hill is ranked sixth on Tour in Par Breakers. Look to see the 25-year-old near the top of the leaderboard.

KK Limbhasut ($9,500)
The Thailand native is one of the hottest golfers on the Outlaw Tour. He is coming off back-to-back top-five finishes. Last week, Limbhasut finished third at the Legacy Shootout, and the week before, he finished second at the Arrowhead Classic. Limbhasut hasn’t finished worse than 16th in his four starts on the Outlaw Tour, and he offers plenty of scoring upside for your DK lineups.

Jeremy Paul ($9,300) and Yannik Paul ($9,100)
The German twin brothers are playing some phenomenal golf this year on the Outlaw Tour. Standouts on the Mackenzie Tour in Canada last season, the Pauls are getting close to their first Outlaw Tour win. Jeremy Paul has three runner-up finishes in seven starts. He is top-five in first-round scoring average, and he is coming off a five-under round of 66 in his second start at the Legacy Shootout last week.

Yannik is playing even better than his higher-ranked brother of late. He finished second in last week’s event after two spectacular rounds of five-under 66. At the Arrowhead classic the week prior, Yannik finished fourth. Play the twin brothers confidently this week.

Derek Bayley ($8,700)
This is a tremendous value for a golfer who has finished top-10 in eight of his 10 starts on Tour this season. Bayley also leads the Outlaw Tour in first-round scoring average (66.30). He is a birdie machine who will look to feed off of his fifth-place showing at the Legacy Shootout a week ago.

Brendon Jelley ($8,300)
Jelley ranks second on Tour in first-round scoring average — averaging a score of 67.40 on his first day. This should bode well for your Showdown lineups on Tuesday. Jelley has only played in five events this year, but he has finished top-10 in all of them. He should come in at a decent ownership number as well.

Riley Wheeldon ($8,200)
This is simply too good of a price for the Outlaw Tour money leader. While I expect him to be one of the most-owned golfers this week, Wheeldon simply does not disappoint. In 11 events, he has eight top-10 finishes — including a first and two runner-ups. Expect another strong performance from Wheeldon this week.

Kyle Slattery ($7,600)
Slattery has three straight top-15 showings. He has made seven of seven cuts this year on Tour and continues to improve. The upside he possesses is great at this price as well. At the Arrowhead Classic a couple of weeks ago, Slattery opened up with a nine-under-par round of 62. This is the type of scoring that can win GPPs.

Mitchel Carlson ($7,500)
Carlson could come in has the most-owned golfer at this price. He is playing some excellent golf of late, proven by his fourth-place showing at the Legacy Shootout last week. On the last day of the tournament, Carlson shot a round of six-under 65 to climb the leaderboard. He now has back-t0-back top-15 showings and will look to stay hot in the desert.

Carson Roberts ($7,100)
Another great value down the board, Roberts has plenty of upside to easily pay off his price. In 10 events on the Outlaw Tour this season, Roberts has six top-10s — including a first and a second. He is fifth on the Money List and won the Orange Tree classic in early April.
