MLB Daily Fantasy Primer: Monday (7/26)

Monday features a mid-sized slate with seven games, where neither leg of the day’s doubleheader will be included. Compared to the packed schedule over the weekend, this is a welcomed sight with enough options to differentiate but not overwhelm.

“Welcomed” is the operative word for Monday. This is one of the better slates in quite a while, as we have plenty of opportunities to save money while also putting together a solid lineup from top to bottom.

Monday's Starting Pitcher Strategy

Shohei Ohtani headlines the pitching roster for Monday, and it's hard to argue against him. He has a great matchup against a Rockies team that is impossibly bad on the road -- MLB even wrote an article about it. The obvious question to ask is, "Will he be worth the money?" That may be the "obvious" question, but I don't think it's the "right" one. I love slates of this size because we can dig into the overall plan-of-attack we can expect from fellow DFS players. Here, it's unlikely that a large number of people opt for German Marquez at a slight discount over Ohtani. For that reason, I'd rather lean on Marquez as the "contrarian" play and immediately separate myself from the field. At least, this is my preferred approach in a tournament.
