Tom Brady Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook: Buy or Sell? (2022)

Tom Brady Dynasty Fantasy Football Outlook: Buy or Sell? (2022)

Following the departure of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to ESPN, it was reported Tuesday that Tom Brady will join FOX Sports as its lead analyst immediately following his playing career. The big question for dynasty fantasy football managers is when will Brady’s playing career come to an end. Brady has continued to avoid Father Time, but he has to stop playing at some point. Right? Does Brady’s deal with FOX Sports indicate the end is closing in?

Let’s take a look at how to handle Brady in dynasty fantasy football leagues.

It is unsurprising that the 44-year-old is making plans for his career following football, but this does impact his value, particularly in dynasty leagues and in trade offers. Brady becomes an option exclusively for fantasy teams in win-now mode in dynasty leagues, with the assumption he will be preparing for his NFL analyst position a year from now.

Buy or Sell Tom Brady in Dynasty Fantasy Football Leagues?

How you handle Brady in your dynasty league largely depends on if you are competing in 2022 or closer to rebuilding for the future. Given the brief retirement stint and the new deal with FOX Sports, it seems likely that this could be Brady’s last season. As a result, those that are holding onto him in dynasty leagues that don’t plan to compete this season should strongly consider taking what you can get for him, especially ahead of 2022 dynasty rookie drafts.

Our updated dynasty trade value chart still has Brady warranting a late first-round or early second-round pick in superflex dynasty rookie drafts. That value is likely to drop as people learn of the news. And in 1QB leagues, it may be difficult to still get a second-rounder for Brady.

Of course, there is a case to be made for buying Brady if you are a contending team in 2022. He’s shown that he can still produce for fantasy managers. In that case, and given the less-than-stellar 2022 rookie draft class, it could be worth floating a late first to see if you can add Brady. However, perhaps you can push to see if you can simply give up a second-rounder this year, or, if necessary, sell the hype around the 2023 class to see if a 2023 second-rounder will do the trick.
