We have made it through another week of action, and there continue to be endless injuries we need to account for on our rosters. Unfortunately, there have also been a lot of solid and slow starts from players that leave us wondering what to do with those roster spots.

Each week I will highlight a few players to target in your weekly FAAB process, but know there are many others available and, more importantly, others that may be better fitting for your teams. If you have any questions, please ask me on Twitter (@bdentrek).

Remember that we’ll be using Yahoo for player percentages, and we’ll keep our suggestion to players rostered in no more than 60% of leagues.

Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Report

Hitters

Jake McCarthy (OF – ARI)

Rostered: 56%
Suggested Bid: 7%

McCarthy had a horrible start to the season and was sent to Triple-A to work on things. Work on things McCarthy did as he has returned and is flourishing. McCarthy returned on May 26 and is hitting .300 over his first 24 games. He has six extra-base hits, including a home run, but more importantly, McCarthy has stolen 13 bases. He is also striking out less than 18% of the time and has scored 12 runs. McCarthy is starting to look like the fantasy game-changer he was in 2022, and that deserves a roster spot on most teams, especially teams in need of speed.

Eddie Rosario (OF – ATL)

Rostered: 55%
Suggested Bid: 8%

Rosario is on quite the heater these days and needs to be rostered everywhere. In June, Rosario is hitting .350 with eight home runs, 16 runs scored, and 19 RBI. He has a .467 ISO, 1.226 OPS, and 221 wRC+. Rosario’s contact quality is outstanding, with a 16.7% barrel rate and a 43.8% hard-hit rate. Rosario is playing nearly every day for one of the best offenses in baseball, which should continue to yield some fantastic fantasy value from Rosario.

Triston Casas (1B – BOS)

Rostered: 21%
Suggested Bid: 7%

There have been high hopes for Casas with his outstanding minor league production, but he has had trouble showcasing the talent regularly. The consistency may finally be here for Casas. Over his last 13 games, he is hitting .292 with two home runs and three doubles with eight RBI. Casas is barreling the ball 14.3% of the time with a 51.4% hard-hit rate, proving he is locked in with such strong contact quality. If Casas continues to develop this way, he could become a fantasy game-changer in the second half of the season.

Pitchers

Braxton Garrett (SP – MIA)

Rostered: 59%
Suggested Bid: 22%

Garrett continues to be one of the best pitchers in the game. This past week he threw seven innings while allowing one run and striking out 13. Since May 8, Garrett has had a 2.50 ERA, 2.11 xFIP, and 30.6% K-BB. He has changed his pitch mix-up, utilizing his cutter more, and it has been the secret sauce he was looking for. Garrett is the new ace of the Marlins, and he could be a fantasy ace for your fantasy teams.

Brayan Bello (SP – BOS)

Rostered: 45%
Suggested Bid: 13%

Bello has been outstanding this season, constantly improving each start. Entering Friday, Bello had a 3.49 ERA, 3.80 xFIP, and 22.2% strikeout rate. On Friday, he was dominant again as he picked up the win, throwing 6.2 innings while allowing one run and striking out five. More importantly, Bello only issued one walk, his biggest issue this season. Bello’s improvements are legit, making him a strong fantasy starter week in and week out.

Reid Detmers (SP – LAA)

Rostered: 39%
Suggested Bid: 11%

Detmers has been good this season but has been outstanding over his last three starts. Detmers has allowed two runs over 18.2 innings while striking out 24 over the three starts. He has an excellent 25.4% K-BB with a 33.7% O-Swing and 11.9% SwStr. Detmers has been close to a consistent fantasy arm over the last two seasons, and he appears to have unlocked the key to that every-start consistency now.

Closers

Jordan Hicks (RP – STL)

Rostered: 46%
Suggested Bid: 9%

With Ryan Helsley going to the IL for some time, Hicks has stepped in as the Cardinals’ closer. He has been dominant since doing so, collecting saves in his last three outings. He has allowed two hits while striking out four and no runs in those outings. Hicks has incredible stuff, but consistency has been an issue. While he’s locked in like this, he should be widely rostered where saves are needed.

Scott McGough (RP – ARI)

Rostered: 31%
Suggested Bid: 12%

The DBacks bullpen has been a revolving door of closers; right now, it is McGough’s time to shine. He had a chance earlier this season but struggled, but he has worked his way back into the ninth-inning role and is flourishing. He has four saves over his last six outings without allowing an earned run and striking out nine. McGough has looked fantastic and should hang onto this closing role for a while.
