James Cook could have increased receiving work in 2023
James Cook could have increased usage in the passing game after Nyheim Hines suffered a knee injury that is expected to end his 2023 season. The unfortunate situation leaves the door open for Cook to garner even more receiving work out of the backfield.
Fantasy Impact
While it’s unfortunate for Hines and wish him a speedy recovery, this does help boost James Cook‘s stock. However, Hines was primarily used as a special teams player during his time in Buffalo, so it’s unclear exactly how much of a threat Hines truly was to Cook’s potential workload. Either way, Cook is shaping up to be a nice value in fantasy drafts regardless. He should be seen as an RB3 with a lot of potential upside.

Odell Beckham Jr. hints that 2023 could be final season
Odell Beckham Jr. is thinking “like this is my last year” and will let the 2023 season determine his future in the league.
Fantasy Impact
After missing the entire 2022 season recovering from a knee injury suffered in Super Bowl LVI, Beckham is now part of a suddenly deep WR room in Baltimore that features five first-round draft picks. Beckham will reunite with offensive coordinator Todd Monken and his pass heavier scheme, which combined with a fully healthy knee should contribute to a relatively productive 2023 campaign. According to FantasyPros consensus ADP, Beckham, Rashod Bateman, and rookie Zay Flowers are being drafted close together at WR48, WR50, and WR51 respectively.

Josh Jacobs not reporting to training camp Tuesday
Josh Jacobs will not report to training camp Tuesday and was spotted on a flight leaving Las Vegas early Tuesday morning. He reportedly has also said he won’t be returning “anytime soon.”
Fantasy Impact
While this may not be a surprise since Jacobs did not sign his franchise tender or reach a long-term deal with the Raiders by the deadline, any extended absence would have a significant impact on the offense. Jacobs, who is currently being drafted as RB7 and 16th overall according to FantasyPros consensus ADP, led the league in both rushing yards and yards from scrimmage in 2022. That alone will be difficult enough to replace, but Jacobs also played 615 more snaps than any other Raiders RB last season. Zamir White, Ameer Abdullah, and Brandon Bolden would help fill any gap left by Jacobs if his holdout were to continue into the regular season.
