6 Fantasy Football WR/CB Matchups to Know (Week 10)

6 Fantasy Football WR/CB Matchups to Know (Week 10)

Fantasy managers are heading into the home straight of the regular season. There are just five weeks left in most leagues’ regular seasons, so it is time to find the edge required to get into the playoffs.

This week’s WR/CB matchups are key as they could see a huge week from a wide receiver currently outside the top 40 in fantasy scoring, despite being drafted highly, as well as a sit from one of Week 9’s surprise performers.

So, without further ado, here are this week’s 6 Fantasy Football WR/CB matchups to know for Week 10.

WR/CB Matchups: Week 10

Advantageous Wide Receiver Matchups

D.K. Metcalf (WR – SEA) vs. Emmanuel Forbes (CB – WAS)

Metcalf has been a disappointment for fantasy managers so far this season. Heading into Week 10, he is currently the WR46 in fantasy scoring. However, this week, he has a real opportunity to shine against Forbes of the Washington Commanders.

Metcalf is currently averaging 0.41 fantasy points per route run, according to the FantasyPoints Data Suite. That puts him tied for 33rd out of all qualifying receivers entering Week 10. However, this week, he has the chance to jump up the rankings with a big performance.

Forbes is currently giving up the most fantasy points per route run of any cornerback playing in Week 10. And by quite some distance. Forbes is currently conceding 0.60 fantasy points per route run against him, which is 0.11 fantasy points more than the next qualifying cornerback on the list. Forbes is also being targeted on 22.4% of all routes run against him, which is the third most by any cornerback playing in Week 10.

With Tyler Lockett on the injury report at the time of writing, Metcalf carries WR1 upside this week with this matchup, if Geno Smith can recapture some of that 2022 form that led to him being rewarded a lucrative contract by the Seattle Seahawks.

This is easily the biggest mismatch heading into Week 10.

Drake London (WR – ATL) vs. Antonio Hamilton (CB – ARI)

London has been dealing with an injury and is currently on the injury report at the time of writing. However, he is trending upwards and there is some hope he will play in Week 10 against the Cardinals.

London has one of the better cornerback matchups this week. Despite being tied with Metcalf as the 33rd-ranked receiver in terms of fantasy points per route run so far this season, he has a matchup that could see him rise up the charts. He is up against Hamilton this week.

Hamilton is currently giving up 0.30 fantasy points per route run against him. While that is currently only tied for the 20th most so far this season, it is still a significant amount of fantasy points to be giving up. If London is able to exploit this matchup, Hamilton could find himself heading into the top 10 going into next week.

The Cardinals do tend to give up a lot of points and are currently on track to end up with the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Therefore, London carries WR2 upside due to this great matchup.

DeAndre Hopkins (WR – TEN) vs. Jamel Dean (CB – TB)

Fantasy managers do not need a reason to start Hopkins in lineups. However, this week, he carries a significant upside. Hopkins is up against Dean, who was absolutely destroyed by C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans last Sunday.

Hopkins is currently scoring 0.51 fantasy points per route run. This impressive total is currently good enough to be tied for 14th amongst all wide receivers entering Week 10. Hopkins is coming into this week as the WR24 in fantasy football. However, he could be in line for improvement after this week.

Dean is currently allowing 0.33 fantasy points per route run against him. This is currently tied for the 13th most amongst all cornerbacks coming into Week 10. However, he is coming off arguably his worst game of the season versus the Texans and is likely to be struggling in confidence.

Expect Hopkins to put up a solid WR2 performance, with the ability to put up low WR1 numbers if quarterback Will Levis can get on a roll early and keep that up through the game.

Challenging Wide Receiver Matchups

Noah Brown (WR – HOU) vs. Mike Hilton (CB – CIN)

Brown is coming off a WR3 overall week in Week 9 with a dominant performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, this week, he has to be a sit candidate for fantasy managers.

That is because, in Week 10, Brown is up against Mike Hilton and the Cincinnati Bengals. Hilton is only allowing 0.16 fantasy points per route run against him so far this season. That is currently tied for seventh-best amongst all cornerbacks in the NFL.

Hilton is only being targeted on 12.8% of routes run against him, due to his dominant performances so far this season. As a result, Brown has the worst WR/CB matchup of anyone in Week 10. Therefore, fantasy managers should sit Brown or run the risk of him hurting their lineups this week.

Elijah Moore (WR – CLE) vs. Arthur Maulet (CB – BAL)

Moore has been disappointing for fantasy managers so far this season, coming into Week 10 as the WR63 in fantasy football. This week he takes on the Baltimore Ravens and goes head-to-head against Maulet.

Maulet is only conceding 0.15 fantasy points per route run against him, which is currently tied for the fourth-least amongst all cornerbacks entering Week 10.

While fantasy managers probably didn’t need much of a reason to fade Moore, they have a perfectly good reason this week due to this horrendous matchup.

Davante Adams (WR – LV) vs. D.J. Reed (CB – NYJ)

Adams is on a disappointing run at the moment and has struggled to put up 10 fantasy points in four out of his last five games, with the only time passing that mark he scored just 12.7 fantasy points.

Things don’t get much better for Adams this week as he is up against Reed of the New York Jets. Reed is only allowing 0.15 fantasy points per route run against him coming into Week 10. This is tied with Maulet, as well as Marshon Lattimore of the New Orleans Saints for fourth-least in the NFL by cornerbacks so far this season.

While fantasy managers probably cannot afford to sit Adams this week, and Adams has the talent to prevail in this matchup, they should be cautious of playing Adams. He is likely to have a low ceiling this week and will be a volume-dependent WR2 in PPR leagues in order to put up a reasonable score.

However, fantasy managers cannot rule out Adams returning to form this week. It just appears unlikely given the current situation in Las Vegas.
