NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Saturday (3/30)

We have an absolutely stacked day in sports on Saturday, including the NHL’s massive 15-game slate. This gives us a ton of different DFS options and I’ve crafted this nine-game unit over at DraftKings. The roster below is playable in the classic $50,000 salary format at DraftKings I’ve also listed each player’s price for the $55,000 FanDuel equivalent. Finally, this lineup is for the 10 games starting at 7:00 p.m. ET or later.

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis

The lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Shane Pinto (OTT) ($6,400 DK, $6,700FD)

It’s too little, too late for the Senators, but they’re picking up steam as they’ve rattled off four straight victories. They’ll square off against the Jets, who have dropped their last five games. Typically, Winnipeg is one of the best defensive teams in the league but they’re surrendering 4.2 goals per contest over the five-game sample size. I’ll lock in Shane Pinto, who has amassed 25 points (8G, 17A) over 31 games played this year. The young centerman has six points (2G, 4A) in his last six games.

C2: Morgan Frost (PHI) ($4,300 DK, $5,300 FD)

The Flyers are desperately trying to hold onto a playoff spot, so they must secure two points tonight against the lowly Blackhawks. Morgan Frost makes a great depth option tonight at center. Frost has nine points (3G, 6A) in his last nine games, bringing him up to 40 points (12G, 28A) over 63 total games. This is a great matchup against a Chicago defense that’s 29th overall (3.36 GAA) and 21st on the penalty kill (77.29%).

W1: Alex Ovechkin (WAS) ($7,300 DK, $8,300 FD)

Speaking of red hot, Alex Ovechkin is finally finding his footing after an unusually slow start to the year. The Great Eight has 16 points (10G, 6A) in his last 15 games. It’ll be a tall task tonight against Boston’s defense, but they’ve dropped to eighth overall in defensive scoring, conceding 2.64 goals per contest. I think it’s worth a shot on Ovechkin since the Capitals are on an upward trajectory.

W2: Andrei Svechnikov (CAR) ($5,500 DK, $6,400 FD)

I have a pair of Hurricanes in my lineup tonight, with the first being Andrei Svechnikov. The winger is fifth on the team in scoring (17G, 29A), with 16 (5G, 11A) of those points coming on the power play. The Canes take on a Habs side that’s pretty underwhelming defensively, ranking 27th in overall defense (3.18 GAA) and 23rd on the PK (76.92%). I think Svechnikov will have his hand in at least one goal in this Eastern Conference tilt.

W3: Jamie Benn (DAL) ($4,600 DK, $6,000 FD)

Jamie Benn’s still humming around the ice at 34 years old. The veteran has been on fire over the last month, racking up 20 points (9G, 11A) over his last 14 games. The winger has multi-point games in two straight and this heater could continue tonight against a Kraken team spiraling out of control. They’ve lost eight of their last 10 games (2-6-2), conceding 3.2 goals per contest over the 10-game stretch.

D1: Kris Letang (PIT) ($5,200, $5,300 FD)

It has been an ugly season in Pittsburgh but the Penguins have secured two straight victories, racking up seven goals over the two-game streak. Kris Letang has been serviceable on the backend, adding 42 points (8G, 34A) this campaign. That’s sixth on the team. The veteran defenseman is also sixth in SOG (148). Letang added an assist last time against Columbus, who they play again tonight in the second leg of a home-and-home. The Jackets have the second-worst defense in the league, allowing 3.42 goals per game.

D2: Torey Krug (STL) ($4,400 DK, $4,900 FD)

The Blues have been heating up down the stretch, winning seven of their last nine games (7-1-1). Torey Krug has contributed over the nine-game sample size, adding four points (4A). He’s up to 36 points (3G, 33A) on the year, making him the top-scoring defenseman among St. Louis’ defensive core. Krug also has 12 power-play points (12A). The Blues’ man advantage should clean up against the Sharks’ 28th-ranked PK (74.78%).

G: Jake Oettinger (DAL) ($8,200 DK, $8,200 FD)

The Stars have re-taken the Central Division lead thanks to a current six-game winning streak. Jake Oettinger is a perfect 4-0-0 over the run, making 96 saves on 103 shots faced (.932 SV%). The 25-year-old appears to be finding his footing and he’ll look to improve upon a 29-13-4 record, 2.93 GAA (32nd) and .899 SV% (36th). This will be a great matchup tonight against a Kraken club that’s just 2-6-2 over their last 10 games, scoring only 1.9 goals per game over the 10-game sample size.

UTIL: Teuvo Teravainen (CAR) ($4,100 DK, $5,400 FD)

The other Hurricane I have locked in tonight is Teuvo Teravainen. The winger has been slumping lately, going scoreless in six straight games. However, I think he’s a solid depth option at this price. Teravainen takes on a Montreal side that has allowed the fifth-most high-danger shots against (173) during 5-on-5 play. Look for Teravainen to get off the schneid tonight in Quebec.
