Welcome to Sleeper Picks. Sleeper’s newest offering promised plenty of entertainment and action, and they delivered. We will break down our top three picks for tonight’s NBA action. Sleeper is quickly becoming one of the most popular season-long fantasy platforms, and they are expanding into other areas based on demand. Each week in this space, we’ll talk about some strategy for the new platform while providing our favorite NBA more/less picks.
NBA Sleeper Picks Player Predictions (5/15)
P.J. Washington (F/C – DAL): 9.5 points (alt line)
Washington has been the X-factor for the Mavericks over the last three games, and if they advance to the Conference Finals, P.J. will be a major reason why. Although he is still young, Washington has been putting up throwback performances similar to what we saw from him in Charlotte when many felt he was an emerging star. His star never truly blossomed in the dysfunctional organization formerly owned by Michael Jordan, but he has broken out as a reliable third option in this series. Washington has poured in 21 or more points in three straight games and is even a strong play at the original total of 15.5. Press the More on P.J. for Game 5.
Pick: More
P.J. Washington (F/C – DAL): 1.5 threes (alt line)
Yes, two P.J. totals. No, you cannot play them together. For those newer to this column, these plays are never suggested as pairings but rather individual options to include on your ticket for the night. P.J. has been locked in from deep, leading some to opine that he suddenly turned into the second coming of former Maverick Dale Ellis. However, those who have watched the Hornets in the past or simply play fantasy basketball will know very well that Washington can get hot from downtown. Washington has averaged over 1.5 threes per game every season of his career and has a 2.0 season on the books. The most notable thing about his current run is that he has upped his percentage to an elite level at .420. P.J. has drained five or more threes in three straight and two or more in five straight. Push the More on P.J. for Game 5.
Pick: More
Jayson Tatum (F – BOS): 8.5 1st quarter points
Tatum is back to being a tone-setter for the Boston Celtics, scoring nine or more first quarter points in four of his last five playoff games. 8.5 is a ridiculous number, but with no alt line available to reduce this total, we will take the gamble that Tatum hits nine or more first quarter points for the fifth time in six games. Tatum scored 9, 8, 12, and 16 in the first quarters of this series. Tap the More on Tatum for Game 6.
Pick: More
Writers note: The lines are constantly changing on Sleeper (and sometimes expiring), so there is a high probability that one or all of the numbers may no longer be the same when you open your app. There are excellent values when they are first posted, with the only catch being that they are not all released at the same time. Vigilance could provide a solid return on investment this season, literally.
